Marciano threw over 100 punches in round 15. All power punches too. Imagine that.

Swarmer with heavy hands, at his weight (180 to 195) Rocky was borderline unbeatable, especially after the adjustments he made to his style after the first Jersey Joe Walcott fight.

yup, only Ali in that division really compared for punch output for a heavyweight champ. Rocky was special, it ticks me off when people dismiss him like I used to do before I studied him. Wouldn't beat everyone in history but he was still unique in his approach because he knew he had limits.

I probably got into an argument with you about it several years ago lol. People’s main argument was people like Tyson, Holyfield, Fury, etc. would kill him. I was like no shit he weighed 185 pounds and wasn’t privy to any of the technological advancements that those guys had/have. You put Justin Upton in a time machine back to the 1930s and he would dominate baseball, it doesn’t mean he’s a greater player than Babe Ruth.

probably did, it's a neverending argument, bu today, with youtube, the old excuses that I had, that we rarely saw footage of those older guys, is gone and people still don't spend the time to check things out. That's just on the guy with the opinion. But, it happens in music too, people saying, "so and so is overrated and I really don't like their music" I usually think that they just never really listened and that at the point of forming an opinion, it was too late for them to change it.

Probably wouldn't vote for Rocky for top 25 if we are talking any weight class. Definitely rank if we're talking heavyweights though.

Would love to see him fight some other cruiserweights and light-heavyweights of more modern eras. He'd be a tremendous attraction with his style.

That was a weak point in the HW division; Joe Frazier could beat any of those guys Rocky beat. Rocky retired quite young also, not likely he would have retired undefeated if not retiring in his early 30s. I don't see him matching up well against bigger and faster fighters. He was a tough guy with hard punches, but I wouldn't put him in a high position among the greats.

Personally, that doesn't matter or make him not very special to me. He would train six months for his fights, fantatically and it showed. There is a certain mystique about him that no other heavyweight has just because of his discipline. No one got more out of what they had.

Of course, he was small for a heavyweight, cut easily and wasn't very fast or coordinated and of course he most likely would not beat a lot of later heavyweights. But his dedication and his focus is legendary. Not too many fighters haven't let down for certain fights and lost because of it, he knew he couldn't afford to ever let down at all.

Me either, too many other great fighters across so many divisions but maybe top 100. I don't know, I'd have to think about it and who he could beat or lose to isn't what made him beloved and unique.

Imagine him vs Holy Fields

Clash of cardio carnage.....and also clashing heads
