Rocky 5 did not make sense...

At some point movie had Rocky suplex the guy in a street fight, movie redeemed imho
Made me wish we seen some of his previous dumb goon/clandestine fights bum life

Btw best nonsense is rich asshole who surely have good lawyers say "touch me and i sue you"... Rocky throw his biggest uppercut at him in front of 99 people including police, and nothing happen lmao

Probably because he didn’t have any money.

I never really thought about it. Just assumed him being a Don King rip off meant he was supposed to be unlikable. 5 was not the movie I over analyzed case it's stitched together with duck tape and clown jizz. Seems like bullying trying to logically test it.

That said, I like all the Rocky movies, except for the Creed ones. To be fair, only tried watching the first one and, like with the force awakens, it felt like somebody singing karaoke inferiorly. Just made me wanna watch the original instead, so I did. Also, modern day Stallone's idea of good filmmaking is an over contrasted blueish digital frame with shaky TV camera work. It just looks cheap. It was tolerable in Rocky 6 somewhat, but Creed just looks like a TV flick. Not as bad as Rambo 5, though...

I think 1-2-6 make up the best, most grounded trilogy. 5 revisiting the old locations kinda gets me. I guess I like it as Rocky tourism. 6 was surprisingly good, following Stallone's decent into obscurity, but I can't say I've revisited it as much. 1-4 remains the king shit and always will be.

So I'm not mad at anyone for ignoring everything passed 4 cause I like my Rocky uplifting. Not him broke and dying alone - boozbag Paulie notwithstanding - all sick, milky eyed and miserable. It's not how you want a hero to go out.

And since bad endings are not endings, I think that's why the series doesn't have that sense of closure. After 4, it feels awesome. After 6, it feels like... "I guess all of that happened".

Creed was an excellent movie.

I never understood why Rocky had such a disdain for Duke. I mean in reality, he could of continued training with Tommy and Tommy would have continued fighting for Dukes promotions. It would have been the perfect set up. Rocky works as a trainer, Duke as a manager and promoter.

Tommy had a point of " I am 20 and 0 but where is the money!?"

In reality, you need promoters to spend their own money in order to create events. True that the promoter is not risking his well being but he is risking his money to make sure an event takes place. They also have to take of, promotion, working with a championship organization like WBC or WBA and they have to fill the undercards and make sure to advertise through various agencies and media. Of course sometimes you have a manager who works with a promoter and in Dukes case, he is a manager AND a promoter which makes life easier.

In Rocky 5, Duke mentioned that Rocky could stay as a trainer since he was doing a wonderful job and Duke never had a problem with Rocky. Both Tommy and Duke were happy with Rocky's training result.

Am I wrong here? Was Duke really the bad guy in this whole thing?

the movie was a thinly disquised allegory of what happened with Tyson and his old team and Don King, the women and the leeches that ruined him. It was the biggest story in boxing around those years. King was hated by many and it seems Sly wanted to get his digs in. There are a multitude of tales and stories detailing just how proudly conniving and slimy Don King is, some of which he told himself (as in the going to the Frazier-Foreman fight with frazier and leaving with Foreman). With time though? Yea, he's bad, they are all bad, you exploit people to beat each other's brains out, they are all exploitive, all of them. So, ya, there was some racism involved, the big, loud black guy was hated by the boxing people, and Don isn't 100 percent vile but he's close enough. With time, I've come to appreciate just how brilliant he is, how driven he is and how little he allows what people think to stop him, in some ways those are amazing qualities. The movie was an example of how he's ruined many fighters over the years, even though he's made many of them rich, he's ripped many off when he didn't have to.
