I never understood why Rocky had such a disdain for Duke. I mean in reality, he could of continued training with Tommy and Tommy would have continued fighting for Dukes promotions. It would have been the perfect set up. Rocky works as a trainer, Duke as a manager and promoter.

Tommy had a point of " I am 20 and 0 but where is the money!?"

In reality, you need promoters to spend their own money in order to create events. True that the promoter is not risking his well being but he is risking his money to make sure an event takes place. They also have to take of, promotion, working with a championship organization like WBC or WBA and they have to fill the undercards and make sure to advertise through various agencies and media. Of course sometimes you have a manager who works with a promoter and in Dukes case, he is a manager AND a promoter which makes life easier.

In Rocky 5, Duke mentioned that Rocky could stay as a trainer since he was doing a wonderful job and Duke never had a problem with Rocky. Both Tommy and Duke were happy with Rocky's training result.

Am I wrong here? Was Duke really the bad guy in this whole thing?

Just another example of Hollywood demonizing that black man IIRC.

Skip Rocky 5 but Rocky Balboa is worth a watch.

Rambo 4 is also worth watching but skip Rambo 5.

I've seen Rocky V unfortunately. I've seen Rambo which was alright but the final Rambo was horrible

Rather just stick with First Blood + Rocky 1-4

Haven't seen that movie in a long ass time but didn't the promoter guy fuck him over financially or something? Can't remember but it was a shit movie.

I do believe with rocky 5 they were going with some kind of parody of Don King. I don't remember the movie giving out right examples of how Dukes is a bad person. Rocky 5 is without a doubt the worst rocky in the whole franchise and I think this is a wide consensus.

Come on this is a movie guys....as far as Duke is concerned....Its not like there has ever been a promoter with a first name that begins with the letter D with 4 letters in total that has persuade a fighter with a car before.

I've never heard of Rocky V before. Last time I checked he defeated the Soviet Union and lived happily ever after.

Still haven't seen Rocky Balboa

I feel a lot of people just pretended the movies after IV never happened.

The Creed movies being good though makes the later Rocky canon hard to ignore though if you want to enjoy those movies. While Rocky V was pretty bad Rocky Balboa was about as well done as a nostaglic cash grab could be. Worth watching but it's a pretty emotional one kind of similar to Creed in terms of the way it's set up.

Duke didn't it fuck him over. Uncle Paul was managing the money and he screwed it up on some bad investment and they all ended up in poverty. Duke was capitalizing on the fact that they ended up back in the poor neighborhood.

Rambo II and III are good but increasingly trade thoughtful consideration of humanity for action sequences. Rambo IV is a bit of a mid way point between First Blood and II and III.

Rocky Balboa was actually my favourite after Rocky

Balboa was good and the same goes for the two Creed movies.

There is no Rocky 5. What the hell is the TS talking about?

All things considered, Rocky series has an excellent track record. Only one dud in the bunch in my opinion.

Balboa is pretty awesome and quite tonally similar to the Creed movies which are also damn entertaining.

That scene where Rocky talks to Ventamiglia outside the restaurant is great. Quite well acted by both.

Rambo 4 is, in my opinion, a key example of a sequel that is way better than i would have expected it to be.

I easily rank it as the second best in the franchise.

What's even less likely is #1 boxer on the planet, putting on arguably the GOAT performance against Drago, going broke overnight, having to move to a working class neighborhood, and make just enough as a coach to scrape by.
