Ditto this, and as someone whose been accused of being on the payroll of both the Gracie Academy and Team Lloyd Irvin, the Douche Bags of Sherdog really need a new approach to those who disagree/point out how ridiculous they are beyond saying the only reason they dare question the Douche Bags of Sherdog is that someone is paying them to do so. In this case one would think the tragedy involved would put such silliness below the conversation at hand, but alas, the Douche Bags of Sherdog know no such standards of decency... or intelligence.

I also had never read that, and in trying to read between the lines in that story it is obvious something very, very bad happened and Rickson went through more than just losing his son to drug addiction. I wish he had kept fighting, but cannot imagine what he went through with this. Fuck all the Rickson haters, fuck you all forever.
 
Not that it matters much anymore, but if Rockson was born in 1982, then he would have turned 18 in 2000, not 19. There's a number wrong somewhere.
 
Thanks for posting. I never knew the details. I remember when he first died they said it was in a motorcycle wreck. Then a training partner once said, that's what happens when you mess around with drugs, and I was puzzled.

My old instructor in Japan (Mario Sergio Yokoyama) was close with Rockson, said he had the smoothest game you've ever seen. And he said Rickson was an absolute mess, that every time he went to the academy he would just start crying, and he basically just checked out of life for about a year (I heard all of this in 2002, so it was still pretty fresh). Funny, the way he died never came up.

It's shitty that he was dead and buried and no one even knew.

And or those calling him just another dead drug addict, I say: maybe, but he was only 19. Many people have been addicts at much more advanced ages, but have still gone on to turn their lives around and do great things. It's too bad this young man never got that chance.

That said: who was the fucking moron that did not google "Rickson Gracie?" The dude had a tattoo of his father on his arm, that identified him as his father! WTF!!!???

most kids experiment with drugs at that age. and most get lucky and never od. it could have easily been anyone who's ever done drugs, including myself.

I think you've got your wires crossed buddy about Rockson Gracie & getting mixed up with Ryan Gracie, Prof Marios close friend was Ryan Gracie who sadly passed in a in Jail cell in 2007.
He was the youngest son of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Master Robson Gracie. On December 8, 2002 his only son, Rayron Gracie, was born. Ryan's brothers are Charles Gracie, Renzo Gracie, and Ralph Gracie.
Ryan was the leader and head coach of Gracie São Paulo, one of the largest jiu-jitsu associations in Brazil, with affiliated schools spread over the world.
On December 15, 2007 at 7:00 am Ryan Gracie was found dead in a jail cell in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A few hours earlier, at about 1:30 am, Gracie had been arrested for stealing and crashing a car, then attempting to hijack a motorcycle to flee from police officers. The owner of the motorcycle hit Gracie on the head, and he was detained by several cyclists until police arrived. A toxicological examination at the Medical Legal Institute was conducted, after which he was transported to the police station.[9] While in jail, Ryan Gracie's wife called psychiatrist Dr. Sabino Ferreira de Faria to attend to him. The psychiatrist was later accused of negligence by over prescribing medication and causing the death of Ryan. He was later sentenced to two years of community service for recklessness.[10] The doctor was with Gracie most of the night, and was notified of Ryan Gracie's death as he was driving home.[11] Gracie was found alone and slumped into a corner when police were checking the cells.
An awesome fighter, alittle crazy but much loved & sadly missed.

Nah, man, I know the difference. I met Ryan at a seminar Mario hosted, and I believe when Mario got his black belt it was under Ryan. But he also had Rickson come through and was wearing gis with Rickson's patches etc. at the time, and claiming a Rickson lineage. Besides, this was 2002, five years before Ryan died, that I was hearing this story.

But the biggest inconsistency would be Rickson crying over the loss of Ryan. You think he would cry over that?
