"Daniel did what he needed to do,"

"It wasn't a crowd favorite-type fight, but Anderson Silva is a crafty individual,"
Lawler said. "You talk about a guy who studied martial arts for the longest time, he's a standup fighter who even at his age is very crafty, still has one-punch power, one-kick power. He did what he had to do to get the victory."

Lawler says he understands why the fans might not have been thrilled with the way Cormier fought. But at the end of the day, the fans aren't the ones who could potentially get knocked out by Silva.

"The fans wanted to see something different," Lawler said. "They're not the ones going in there getting punched and kicked. I can see why they weren't very excited about it. But Daniel needs to put food on his family's table as long as possible and he got the victory."

See Cerrone

A more exciting fighter than yourself understands and hespects Daniel Cormier.

Hespeck Hobbie.

Agreed.

Especially on 2 days notice.

Fans shit all over him for not going toe-to-toe with perhaps the greatest striker who has ever fought in MMA. lol

Guess Lawler isn't being invited to the Cowboy badass club anytime soon.

Robbie "Shang Tsung" Lawler Knows.

DC was probably wary given that in Anderson's last fight he essentially KO'd the current MW champ.

No sense taking unnecessary risks with a guy that can one-shot you at any moment. Even the one body kick that landed seemed to gut him pretty badly.

He took that body shot and went, "Oh, shit, what am I doing striking with this guy? Takedown!".

I'll admit on bitching as well...........but Anderson Silva is my favorite fighter so I am hella biased. I do understand why he did it though.

DC has decent hands, but he would have to go full retard to stand and trade on the feet with the spider. haha

Andersons striking is world class, and he has so many different weapons that he can knock people out with.

Am I misremembering, or did Cerrone take down Oliveira pretty sharpish when they fought?

If so, can't really bash DC for his game plan.

As far as I am concerned, I had no problem with Daniel's strategy...but I did expect him to put an epic ground beating on Silva.

True that. It showed when Silva hurt DC with that sneaky body kick, despite his age that motherfucker is crafty.

I'm fine with how it all went down and enjoyed the fight for what it was. Moose may have been the better option if it was for the belt.

Well now that we got Robbie Lawler's opinion, what does Ja Rule think?

Tired of this "did what he had to do", " he has a family to feed" horseshit.

Just take 5 minutes to play it out in your head.

They said the title was not on the line, they made it 3 rounds, they will pay him win money no matter what based on circumstances. More people are watching him than ever have before, or will again, so he will gain more fans and make more money in the long run with an exciting loss than a boring win. And the UFC will probably give you even more in bonus money if somebody gets finished in an exciting fight. And at the end of the day it's your decision if the fight ends with a finish, and everyone can see that.

Where's the gif of Lawler getting lnp'ed by Hendricks and just shaking his damn head.

It's a short notice fight so he wouldn't be fully prepared for this one, both of them weren't.
No need to risk arguably his last big pay day which was already halved.
The fight was there just to fill the empty slot, people shouldn't have expected much from it.

Think Lawler, think...you Mr. Clean looking clone

We fans are not in there getting punched or kicked, correct. But we are the ones putting the money down for the PPV and tickets. You think the UFC just magically gets revenue out of thin air? That money comes from us fool. Think deeper.

If Cormier wants to do takedowns, fine. But we expect Fedor-type GnP, not blanket smothering.
