Do you ever find yourself rooting for a team you consider to be rivals in important games?
Just to provide a little depth to my question.
I'm a Middlesbrough FC (Boro) fan and as a Boro fan we're supposed to hate the Geordies and the Mackems (Newcastle and Sunderland). I unquestionable do hate the Geordies, they're big time Charlie's and I enjoy nothing more than watching them get beat and smash their own city up.
Sunderland however are different. Don't get me wrong when we play them, I detest them and in a normal game I root for their opponents but something changes when they're playing in an important game.
They made it to the league cup final and I wanted them to win and now they're facing relegation I find myself hoping they stay up. Weird.
I was just wondering if any other football fans or even fans from other sports ever share this strange relationship with their rivals?
