Television RIP Ziggy

The reality of our natural theatre and absurdity is a hard thing to comes to grasp with as a human being for a lot of normal, regular day folk. It's that much harder when you fourth wall it as a career choice.

Never seen the show but RIP to this man.

Evan Wright and Ransone 18 months of each other. GK was amazing. They got the Marine Corps right for once. RIP

Suicide... Which I would say is Mental Health related... is no freaking joke.

Nicky Katt also committed suicide this year, at 54 year old.
He had a respectable career in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Being in 'Dazed & Confused,' he was one of the most popular characters on 'Boston Public,' one of Christopher Nolan's early films 'Insomnia,' and 'Boiler Room.'

And for the nerds, he did the VO for Atton in KOTOR2.

Like so many of us who live with this illness, he carried that weight every single day. At some point, it became too much to bear. That truth is devastating, and it hits close to home.

James Ransone was an amazing f’n actor. A true talent. One of my favorites, without question. He brought so much humanity, vulnerability, and raw honesty to every role. Ziggy Sobotka in The Wire. Corpora Josh Ray Person in Generation Kill. Performances that stayed with you because they felt real, because he felt real. That kind of authenticity does not come from nowhere.

I struggle with depression every day myself. It is a constant fight, a constant weight, something that never fully leaves the room. But today, I am still here. I am still breathing. And losses like this are a brutal reminder of just how close the edge can be for so many of us, even those who seem strong, successful, or outspoken about their pain.

For those of you who have friends battling this horrible illness, please check up on them. Even if they seem okay. Especially if they say they are fine. A message, a call, a reminder that they matter more than they know can make a difference. Sometimes it is the smallest lifeline that keeps someone here one more day.

James, you are not suffering anymore, brother. The pain that followed you so relentlessly is finally quiet. Thank you for the art you gave us, for the characters that will live on long after this loss.

May your soul truly rest in peace.

Damn, had no idea. Amazing in Dazed, also underrated in Way of the Gun, Boiler Room, A Time to Kill, etc. RIP.

Very sad news anytime somebody takes their own life. I remember him well from The Wire and will watch Generation Kill due to the recs in this thread

He was also in way of the gun.

Haven't seen it.
Didn't post his entire filmography, just the prominent roles I could remember off the top of my head.

He only had three small roles from 2011-2018, and nothing since.

My gut feeling...

Unless he actually retired and was living off of investments or starting his own business... he got addicted to drugs sometime in the 2000s and it began to consume him and the roles started drying up.
Don't have much to back it up, other than it's just a cliche for Hollywood.

It sucks to say... But when they say the CoD is 'overdose' it means there's some guessing if it was an accident or suicide.
Then they outright say 'suicide' as the CoD there is no guessing. It absolutely was intentional.

it never gets mentioned enough, but he was unbelievable in Tangerine (a supporting role, but stole the show in every scene he was in, & in a lot of ways, was the engine powering the story)

Anyone entering this thread who has only seen The Wire needs to go watch Generation Kill ASAP.

You won't be disappointed. Lucky you to still have that on the shelf of the unfamiliar.
I haven't seen it but love war movies, and enjoyed him on The Wire so I'm gonna have to check it out.

If you sort IMDb for all non-documentary TV Miniseries with 10K+ votes in the genre of War, it is the 3th highest rated of all time behind only Band of Brothers and Das Boot.

That's the caliber of filmmaking you're about to bite into that we're talking about, here.

The USMC should make him an honorary marine.
