RIP Joao Carvalho, MMA fighter who just died after complications from fight with Conor's teammate

Damn, must've been some brain swelling. Rip

Terrible news. RIP Carvalho.

Sometimes I forget just how dangerous this sport is.

Thats tragic , Does anybody know what he actually died from, the report is pretty vague?

The end of the fight:

Conor at the start of the interview saying he thought the fight should have been stopped early:

If there's anything that can be taken away from this, is it shows the huge risks and that anything can happen when they're in there fighting. For people who slaughtered recently someone like Dos Santos for "fighting safe" or criticising others for the same reasons, maybe you should re-think what you're saying or have an MMA fight yourself and see how you fare.

Wow. "A helluva fight, the man took some big shots, I thought it could have been stopped maybe earlier. The referees need to be on the ball a little bit." Mystic Mac indeed. What a fucking disaster. Watching the fight, that ref did let him take at least a good extra 4 big heavy shots, after he was clearly all done. We see this happen too often in MMA and think little of it, but here in this case those probably killed the guy. That ref is going to carry this one for the rest of his life. Just an awful tragedy all around.

Must feel weird now for people who were cheering and celebrating as he was getting beat up.

Regarding stoppage, I wouldn't blame ref, Rumble-Gus was much worse, or Rockhold-Weidman. And they didn't have any consequences.

Obviously the punches did damage, but do you remember the Pete Sell v Matt Brown fight? Sell was falling over and couldn't stand long before the fight was eventually stopped and even Brown was motioning to the ref (I'm pretty sure it's who I think it was) what else did he need to do to stop the fight, but it didn't seem at that same level.

Some fighters are too tough for their own good. It's interesting that the medics came in during the end of the second round and asked him standard questions (name, where he was, what he was doing, etc) It's possible he might have taken a bit of punishment before that. I'm sure we'll get more of a take on how the fight went by the media that was there covering it.

It's easy to say now. Stoppage was ok. Sometimes these thing happen and there is no way around it, not just in mma, in any sport.
RIP

Yeah that is very suspicious if they asked him questions between rounds. Curious to hear more about this as it all comes out. I wonder if he had a pre-existing condition.

The fucked up thing is, this happens a few times a year in Boxing. We're just not used to it in MMA, because we don't have that awful, dangerous mandatory eight count.

Its going to happen in any full contact sport from time to time,no matter what safeguards are taken.

Joe Frazier - "Boxing is the only sport you can get your brain shook, your money took and your name in the undertaker book."

Same applies here.

Portuguese MMA scene isnt big and it just got smaller, such a shame.

May he rest in peace
