RIP Chris Cornell (death ruled suicide by hanging)

It's annoying when people give the most attention to someone saying something they don't like or something "uncool." I say ignore them and give attention to people who deserve it.
I would've given them the Bill Burr treatment. Give 'em the right there Fred.

Obviously he was suffering from mental illness to commit suicide so you can't expect someone in that state to act rationally or say "that made him suck" because he had a disease.

Hey man you're talking to a sherdogger dont you know they are mental health professionals and know what they speak of?<Y2JSmirk>

Ive worked in a psych ward for a good stretch and these comments about suicide being weak or selfish are so god damn stupid it makes my brain hurt. You really dont understand whats going through the persons mind unless youve seen it in person or been there yourself. And obviously neither is the case for some of the posters in here.

That's why most of the rock nightclubs started going out of business when grunge became the trendy type of hard rock of the time. People want to go out to a rock 'n roll club to have a good time and the music was all about how life sucks. It didn't work. People stopped going to the clubs and they went out of business. In the 80s the rock nightclubs were packed, making great money and everybody there was having a great time.

I have to admit that most of the time I can't tell what they're saying in grunge songs but I do find the music depressing. I suspect the National Minimum Drinking Age Act had a lot to do with the failure of the clubs also. Most of my club time was between the ages of 18 to 24 and the later part of that was because of habit. By the time people reach the age of 21, they have found other things to do. When clubs couldn't make money selling alcohol they couldn't adjust quickly enough.

What "rock" was there in the 80's?

If you didn't live through 80s and you weren't at some of the great rock nightclubs where the great bands get their start, I'm not going to explain it to you. Words won't do the music and lifestyle of that era justice.

I don't usually get upset about celebrity deaths but this one hurts. Huge fan if his work and he's an idol of mine. Amazing guy and voice. Will be sorely missed.

Dude is shredding it with Jesus now.

Even in a RIP thread, you gotta find a way to shit on someone. I bet you hate yourself so much.
You guys gotta make up your minds...am i some vain narccissit who loves himself, or some depressed schmuck who hates himself?

Anyway, no, i just hate his music and I never loved the dude, but I got mad respect for him for doing something all of us are afraid to do. Dude, like, that shit is final! It's crazy. You're just (literally) taking a leap and you have no idea where it goes. Terrifying. Sad it happen to happen like that, but I hate the "Oh so and so is a coward for killing themselves" stuff. That shit is so baller. Props to the big homie (RIP)

Joking aside I liked his music. That second Audioslave Album is one of my favourites.
It's the years of drugs paired with mental illness catching up. it's a shame.

No Andrew Wood so fuck that list. RIP to him too. But still, point taken.

I've been listening to Like a Stone all day long. I'm gonna bang my girl to this song and choke her for the feelz

One of the most unique Lead singers. Damn, what a shame.

RIP

Great interview by Howard Stern from 07

How about you shut your cumdumpster of a mouth and educate yourself on depression or better yet how about you enlighten us all on how to overcome depression and carry on a happy life

I overcame my depression by having kids.. I started eating healthy and excercising. I had a depression that on the surface was worse than Chris's, because I couldn't go out in public; it was so bad I became agoraphobic. I went from being outgoing and popular to not being able to talk and losing every friend I ever had. I still to this day have no real male friends, because I lost my childhood group of friends because my depression weirded me out for a couple years so bad. I started lifting weights and got strong.. That helped make me feel like me again. I wasn't afraid of people anymore. My brain forced me into that depression because o was killing myself with booze and fast food 3x a day.. I had to reboot, and I did. My head cleared, and I started having sex and making babies. My 4 (5th I don't see) are my friends now, and so are the girls I date. I have passing male friend relationships as well.

So that's how I beat the world's worst depression.

Kinda makes you a bigger douchebag for shitting on a guy who couldn't beat his demons

Rock star Chris Cornell died after he hanged himself, medical officials have said.

"The cause of death has been determined as hanging by suicide," Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said in a statement after an initial examination.

It added: "A full autopsy report has not yet been completed."

Chris Cornell: Soundgarden star's death investigated as 'possible suicide'

Chris Cornell's death is being investigated as a possible suicide, Detroit Police have told the BBC.

The singer died at the age of 52 after a concert in Detroit on Wednesday evening, his representatives announced.

In a statement, Cornell's representative Brian Bumbery said his death was "sudden and unexpected".

It also said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause and asked for privacy.

Cornell died shortly after playing a concert with Soundgarden in Detroit on Wednesday evening.

A spokesperson for Detroit Police confirmed to the BBC that they received a call just after midnight (05:00 BST).

"He was found on the bathroom floor, our medical unit were called and he was pronounced dead on scene," a spokesperson said.

"A family friend went to go check on him and observed him on the bathroom floor. The body was transferred to the medical examiner's office and the cause of death will be determined."

The show was part of a wider tour and the group had a number of live dates scheduled for later this month.

Sir Elton John led the tributes, tweeting: "Shocked and saddened by the sudden death of @chriscornell. A great singer, songwriter and the loveliest man."

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page added: "RIP Chris Cornell. Incredibly talented, incredibly young, incredibly missed."

BBC 6 Music's Matt Everitt said he was taken aback by Cornell's death.

"This is a hell of a shock, he'd been gigging frequently despite having a life that was quite extreme, and he was certainly in extremely good health, performing concerts and seemingly pretty much at the top of his game," he said.

Cornell was born on 20 July, 1964.

As a solo artist, he released four studio albums - most recently 2015's Higher Truth.

His biggest single in the UK was 2006's You Know My Name, which was the theme song to Casino Royale, which starred Daniel Craig.

The track made him the first male American artist to write and perform the theme song for a James Bond movie.

But he was perhaps most famous as the lead singer of Seattle band Soundgarden, which formed in 1984 and went on to release six studio albums.

Last year, the band confirmed they were returning to the studio to record new material and a tour was announced for this year.

On Wednesday evening, the Fox Theatre in Detroit tweeted pictures of the band while they were live on stage.

Cornell himself tweeted about the show on Wednesday evening, writing: "Finally back to Rock City!"

Soundgarden's most successful album in the UK was 1994's Superunknown, which reached number four in the chart.

In 2001, he joined rock supergroup Audioslave, which consisted of Cornell on lead vocals, together with Rage Against The Machine members Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk (drums).

The group released three albums - all of which reached the top 20 in the UK - but disbanded in 2007.

All this mention of hung and bbc. Did a guy die here????

Wow that sucks. Audioslave was probably the best band of that decade. I was always sad that they only made 3 albums.

cobain, staley, weiland and now cornell. for the love of god somebody wrap eddie vedder in bubble wrap, i can't take any more.

Spent the evening outside hanging with my buddies, drinking a few beers, listening to Soundgarden/Temple of the Dog/Audioslave talking about Chris and reflecting on life

Sad to hear. Guy was insanely talented. I listened to some Audioslave earlier today as remembrance.

I'm not a hardcore grunge dude, but I see posters here typing Audioslave more instead of Soundgarden in remembering Cornell. Not saying it's wrong, it's just like remembering Paul McCartney as a Wings guy more than being involved with the Beatles.
