I can't help but wonder why this happens in threads. You will always have a few people malign Franklin claiming fighters he defeated were not that good. Yet if you look at Matt Hughes, Wanderlei Silva, Frank Shamrock, or even Guy Mezger's MMA records they also have a list of wins against fighters where you go, who really were these guys? And this is not to take away anything from Hughes or Silva as they're legends, it is only to prove a point. I just wonder why it exclusively is something Franklin is chastised and maligned for yet other fighters get a pass? I have noticed this over the years however it is really annoying IMO.

it may have to do with the fact that Franklin looked like an absolute can both times he faced Anderson Silva.

You thought of this all by yourself?
meaning I watched those fights, I've been into MMA for a long ass time and therefore I have opinions? yes? of course I can be wrong... didn't even know rich franklin was 'chastised' by anyone.

Silva ended his title reign early and took his soul. Franklin seems to get hated on because he left MMA and got on with his life.

Rich franklin is the 18th best fighter of all time

Put some fucking respek on his name

Can't recall ever seeing someone try and discredit Rich's fighting resume. His record reads like a list of some of the best fighters and top competition, especially for the time he fought in. It's more impressive than Bisping's, that's for sure.

Shit, he looked like a CAN against Silva?!?!?? It`s almost like it never happened when guys fought the fucking GOAT.

Franklin was legit. Unfortunately, he faced Anderson when he was at his peak. He had absolutely no answer for that clinch. A shame because if Anderson didn't exist he would have reigned over the division for some time.

Franklin was very well rounded and came to the sport late. The sport caught up with him quickly.

I choose to think Anderson roided and his legacy belongs to Franklin.

I'm not saying the criticism is deserved btw, just responding to ts.

I love your confidence/specificity in that. I'm curious as to what your 1-17 looks like

Chastised? Criticized, maybe. But not chastised, that doesn't make any sense.

I've actually never heard anyone chastise Franklin for anything. the only person who he probably shouldn't have fought was Quarry.

i doubt he'd be able to beat Vitor, Hendo, or Chael when Silva fought them.

well rounded? Franklin didn't study much muay thai evidently. I don't recall him having great boxing either. He was a brawler/bjjer with passable wrestling.
