Television Rewatching ‘Some’ Game of Thrones

Jaime was the most disappointing. Spent seasons making his character become a better man and then he goes back to Cersei. The woman who ordered the Mountain to kill him and then sent Bron to kill him and Tyrion?!
It's pretty in line with his character. The demon he can't out run.

For every nice thing he did, and no matter what she did to him, he always wound up going back to her, or doin something she had told him to do.

He threatened Edmure with catapulting his son into the Riverlands castle they were attempting to siege, just so he could convince him to lift the siege and go back to her.

I disagree somewhat

If he had just left Cersei I would agree but the woman threatened to kill him TWICE and Tyrion. That alone would be reason enough to stay away from her.

The Edmure situation was interesting. I think Jaime tried to reason with him and offer Edmure safety at Casterly Rock. Edmure would have never accepted terms from Jaime. But a threat from the Kingslayer he would believe.

I rewatched it once. I fast forward through some of the boring parts. I skipped the whole training thing with Arya and the faceless stuff. I skipped a lot of the boring talking stuff that I already knew the jist of the conversations.

Last season ruined the entire rewatch value of that show. I even got HBO on cable in 2014 for game of thrones.

I feel if I ever did a rewatch, I’d stop after the season 6 finale. Season 6 still felt like it was pretty damn good overall and the final two episodes of it were very memorable.

That final battle should have been a lot more err, good? You can see they had certain ideas, the Dothraki torches being extinguished in the pitch black was one of the best things I’ve seen on TV. It had potential, but everything was just drawn out way too much. The hound Vs Mountain fight along with the music the light of the seven is the highlight of the finale

Still gives me goosebumps. A masterpiece

Yeah, it’s hard to get stuck into it again when you know what’s coming

My last rewatch I just found myself getting pissed as the quality started falling later on.

It's one thing to watch the show as it was released and see how bad S7&8 were years after the great earlier ones..

It's another on a binge when you see the whole series in a month when the viewings are closer together time wise.

Oh' that was a brutal one(in a good way). Enjoy the next season, and then get ready to wonder what the fuck happened to it.

I think Season 5 gets too much hate but I understand after how good Season 4 was. Season 6 I rank under Season 4 as the best season.

S4
S6
S3
S1
S2
S5

S8

I wouldn't put it that high up, but it was a return to form that made S5 look like a hiccup. S6 was the hiccup apparently. S5 might not be so bad in the grand scheme of things, but it was the first season where you noticed that something was a bit off in what was up until that point, a perfect show. That was when they stopped doing their big blow off in episode 9, and I think that structure really hurt it. Like the writers got impatient, or something. I know a lot of people liked "Hardhome" or whatever it's called, but to me it was just the beginning of "zombie" fluff that the show really leaned into in it's worst years, and became more concerned with instant action gratification, rather than taking their time to build it up with political intrigue. I think the show runners started reaching for those "Walking Dead" numbers, and they probably succeeded in the short term with ratings, but the legacy of the show really suffered for it, as it turned into the "Dragons and Zombies" show.

I'd personally go:

S3
S1
S4
S2
S6
S5
S8
S7

I think season 7 gets too much of a pass, due to season 8 being the finale. It's such a pointless season that just meanders on nothing. At least S8 had some movement and intrigue, despite it being written pretty badly.

Can’t fault you for putting S1 so high. When Ned Stark was beheaded, I was in disbelief. Never had a show kill off their top character in the first season.

I became a fan after Baelor. I knew the Red Wedding was coming because I read the book. It was still a great season

I didn’t mind the Dragons and Zombies arc because the whole show was Ice vs Fire. It had to come to a head

The shit with Arya was great too. From the wolf conflict, to her getting trained by...whoever that guy was, LOL. Every episode had a "moment". It gets a bit of a bad rap sometimes, for looking a little cheap compared to the rest of the series, but I think that worked in it's favor, as it forced them to work with what they had at the time. The writing had to carry it, and it helped in fleshing out all of these characters, before they got a green light to really go for it.

If I'm being honest, I think Season 3 is actually pretty dull for the most part(outside of Jamie's arc), but it all built to such an incredibly insane pay off, that I can't deny it's greatness. It lulled you into a sense of security, and then just ripped your guts out. It was so perfect. I don't think the "Red Wedding" hits as hard, if the season was more...err...bombastic. Especially coming off of S2, which was very "event" focused, and ended with a crazy battle that got your blood pumping, but ended as you would expect. S3 was the antithesis to that.

You are speaking rationally but the whole point of the character was he was tragically blinded by love and we know the crazy things people do for that. That's what made his character so ultimately tragic. You are pissed you didn't get a happy ending.

Happy ending my arse!!! Lol

I knew Jaime would die but I thought he would go out defending the Starks or Brienne. Doesn’t have to be heroic (Jaime was more of anti hero anyway)

Jaime saying he didn’t care about the innocent people in Kings Landing made no sense because he became the Kingslayer by killing the Mad King who was going to burn half a million people.

Why not just let him burn the city if you felt that way the whole time?!

Agree, because more Tywin is better, always.

And the masterwork scene where Arya is serving the table and able to turn her face away every time Littlefinger tries to get a look at her, because she knows he'd recognize her. Was so subtly done I didn't even realize what was happening first watch.

Did you see the deleted scene with Tywin and Pycell, shows the dropped arc where he was pretending to be old and busted?
There was a scene in season 1 that had him walking out of a room in the whore house and it showed it was a sham. I do agree the Tywin scene should have been left in as it was more memorable.
