Rewatched Sonnen vs Silva I

Considering Dana was pissed at Silva for his UFC 112 performance and threatened to cut him, I don’t think they were trying to protect him lol.

Fail Sonnen had been subbed seven times before that fight. Him getting tapped out (which he didn't dispute), isn't exactly shocking. Your boy lost, move on. Sonnen has.

get a grip on reality and learn to understand what you are watching, not everything is on the up and up
TS is the kind of guy to call someone a sheep if they don’t believe his opinion. The argument has 0 grounds and you probably saw it on a YouTube comment.

One of the most dominant losses in MMA history, Chael had a weakness for finding a way to lose.

It was an epic fight and I love me some Chael Sonnen but he was juiced out of his mind and he admits it and also accepts that he tapped and lost the fight?

If he didn’t tap and there was no ref Anderson could have choked him to death or elbowed his head into oblivion, so the silly arguments that he beat Anderson for 4.5 rounds and lost due to jiu jitsu etc means nothing

He did tap, but I would like to see a rule where everyone knows a tap has to be 3 in a row, otherwise you keep fighting until you actually pass out or really tap. It would get rid of all these Brazilian taps, like the Werdum fight.

I've never rolled, but it seems like these guys are wavering about tapping. Like their mind is telling them to tap, but then they realize they should try and fight through it midway. It would take a lot of the controversy out of submissions. Especially for chokes. For joint locks, yeah, leave it up to the ref's discretion.

I can't really fault Rosenthal here. He stepped in when he saw a clear tap, but then realized maybe he should let it go. It's all on Sonnen in that case for tapping once.

The shadyness of Sonnen and how perfectly that triangle ended that fight at the last second I have also suspected it is a work. And also how easily Silva disposed Sonnen in the rematch, showed how a legit fight would've went.

You should make a thread about it. Would love to hear the collective intelligence of Sherdog weigh in on it.
Lmao

Ate you retarded?

Yeah everyone knows you should work a 5 round fight. All 5 rds.Especially one you roid for, haha. Chael was not the favorite going into this fight but let's work it so that he still loses, what a great idea. Who benefits?? Absolutely fucking no one! Woooooo!

Yeah I am retarded, have you something against mentally challenged people now or something?

What has the amount of rounds anything to do with it? Maybe they wanted to give the people their money worth? Sonnen was on Roids his whole career so I don't know why he would stop for the Silva fight, maybe he just got caught?
The reason is that Sonnen is super shady and the ending was just to perfect for me how Sonnen was smashing Silva all fight and then just at the last second he gets caught in a triangle. I dunno, I think there are more then me who think that is a work.

Weird. Chael said he tapped.

Embarrassing

Chael absolutely tapped. Are you fuckin stupid?

There's actually 3 taps there. 2 of them were soft because cheeky Sonnen was going for the BJJ phantom tap.

All those pillow shots from Soonon and not a scratch on Silva face. Yeah, he really took it to him. <Moves>

Chael didn't even bother to defend that fifth round triangle. Fight was a work imo.
That is an incredibly dumb take. Sonnen almost finished Silva. Why would they risk that if it was a work?

Anderson was badly injured in the first fight so he couldn't stuff any takedowns. TDD is all legs and core, good luck with that when your ribs are injured.

In the rematch when he was healthy you saw his true strength and TDD, Sonnen could not score another takedown after he blew his wad in the first round(he went on way too high a pace, big mistake as he still did not do damage even in full mount).

And btw grabbing shorts is hardly going to stop a strong wrestler from taking you down. It's blown out of proportion, there's a reason it never really happened again in another fight and fighters would sure as hell grab shorts if that stopped a wrestler from taking them down(as we've seen many fence grabs over the years).

You have like 2% of all the posts on Sherdog and it is filled with quality like this.

Interesting, never heard Silva was injured coming in to that fight. Would make sense how that fight unfolded. Do you have any sources?

Chael has arguably had the toughest resume in the history of MMA. He didn't always win, but he has fought the best and in 3 different weight classes. Who else has fought 3 out of the 4 Goats in Fedor, Jones, and Silva.
