I scored this fight a draw.

10-9 Shogun
10-10
10-9 Gus

29-29 Draw

1st round: Feeling each other out both throw a kick. Gus catches Shogun off balance and he slips, Gus gets a couple GNP in but Shogun is clearly fine and rolls for a very tight heel hook. Gus gets out and moves to the cage where Shogun has a bodylock and knees him in the face as he gets up. Gus gets a TD after a short break but doesnt do anything with it as Shogun goes for his legs again as theyre back on even ground. Shogun lands a hard overhand right which drops Gus but it might be counted as TD. Shogun gets him to the fence again with more knees. They break and Gus goes for the same combos ending in an uppercut and many miss. Shogun lands a 1-2 and Gus lands a good knee to the body only time he really went for one. It gets to the fence again and Shogun gets the better of the grappling, Gus goes for a TD but doesnt get it. 10-9 Shogun

2nd round: Shogun got the better of the 1st half, Gus pulled away at the end. Shogun was landing hard counters and overhand rights with Gus's left side exposed many times from poor defense. Shogun was timing him easily but seemed to run out of gas he goes for a TD and ends up on his back. Gus stands, lands a punch and lets him back up. Shogun hits another 2 big right hands. Gus gets a TD but Shogun quickly gets back up and initiates a clinch and lands a couple shots. Gus takes him down again with a minute left. Doesnt do anything with it and they stand up again. Gus lands a knee in the clinch and Shogun lands a right straight to the body. Gus goes for another uppercut which doesnt land due to Shoguns forehand guard but Gus follows up with a beautiful knee. Shoguns in brawl mode now and lands a couple overhand rights. He gets a leg kick while moving away its a weak leg kick though you can tell his legs are shot. Gus lands a nice uppercut to the body and a hard knee in the clinch. Final frame Shoguns circling and neither lands anything outside a leg kick by Alex. Very close round had it 10-10

3rd: Was all Gus for the most part aside from some defense by Shogun at the start where Gus failed to take his back after a scramble. Gus had his most TDs in this round, Mauricio was slower and Gus had his best striking round too. He beat Shogun down in this one. 10-9 Gus clearly

Draw but judging overall i give it to Gus due to his dominant 3rd and overall damage (altho Mauricio bleeds/swells easier than most like Fedor). Mauricio came the close to finishing with the heel hook tho. The 30-26 card is atrocious. This was an extremely competitive fight in the 1st 2 rounds and this was the 2nd best fight of the night as well behind Scotty/Albert.

Gus showed a hell of a chin this fight. I knew Bones wasnt gonna finish him with strikes. Shogun was very competitive outside the 3rd round. He showed a hell of a lot more fight than Nate and BJ did that night against the new era.

And that's supposed to be Gus's greatest victory or something.

I Rewatched Home Alone 2, much better than people thought

but Kevin definitely beat the Wet Bandits 50-45

Edit : They are called the Sticky Bandits in Home alone 2

I've scored it the same way you did. A 10-8 for Gus in the 3rd round seems exaggerated to me.

I've always seen it as an underrated fight. It was pretty competitive, fun to watch. Gustafsson showed a great chin along with some nice reverses. And Shogun is Shogun. Me might have gassed, but man, I love the guy. Such a legend.

All I remember about the fight was Shogun not being able to do anything against an up and coming fighter. That was the end of his run for me at a top level.

I did like the red trunks though. Christmas Shogun.

Except there are no 10-10 rounds so your argument has just fallen apart.

I scored it 29-28 for Gustafsson, but you're right that the fight was close. Goldberg described it as "a very one-sided decision" during Gus's walkout for the Jones fight.

Shogun couldn't reach him, Gus was in control enough to clearly win IMO.

Shogun 30-25. He will take his belt back. Its 2005 motherfucks.

Good fight but Gus won imo.

Shogun was hitting him hard throughout the fight though, especially early.

Only because judges rarely if ever use them.

I wish they were used more. Sure the initial uptick in draws will suck but every other fight is a rematch at this point anyway, I think in the long term it would instill a sense of urgency and lead to less coasting.

  1. The 10-Point Must System will be the standard system of scoring a bout. Under the 10-Point Must Scoring System, 10 points must be awarded to the winner of the round and 9 points or less must be awarded to the loser, except for a rare even round, which is scored (10-10).
  2. The following objective scoring criteria shall be utilized by the judges when scoring a round:
    1. a round is to be scored as a 10-10 round when both contestants appear to be fighting evenly and neither contestant shows clear dominance in a round;
    2. a round is to be scored as a 10-9 round when a contestant wins by a close margin, landing the greater number of effective legal strikes, grappling and other maneuvers;
    3. a round is to be scored as a 10-8 round when a contestant overwhelmingly dominates by striking or grappling in a round.
    4. a round is to be scored as a 10-7 round when a contestant totally dominates by striking or grappling in a round.
