Rewatched Rumble vs Vitor

The only time a fighter has moved up a weight class and still had massive weight cutting problems? understandable I spose as Rumble did put on a lot of muscle by that fight, most of what he has on him down at LHW.
He seems good now knocking heads around at 205.

he's lucky vitor is old now and too small for 205
Not really he was just incredibly dehydrated for that fight. It would be like Vitor trying to make 170.

How many years (and weight classes) ago was this now? Haters digging way back for ammo now...

I haven't seen the fight in a long while, but I don't remember it being so one sided as everyone here is making it seem. I remember Rumble getting him down quite a few times and there being quite a few questionable stand ups. It was very odd to me. The outcome of the fight could have been completely different had the fighters not had been stood up at such odd moments. Regardless, Vitor is an extremely dangerous opponent for anybody, so you can't really knock someone too bad for a loss to him. Not to mention Rumble fought TRTitor. Who knows how a fight between them would go today.

those were the worst and most biased standups from any ref ever

I imagine someone is not going to be terribly confident entering a fight after they almost kill themselves trying to make weight and still miss the mark because their body started shutting down.

But y'know, details.

Yeah proper preparation is a huge part of the job/sport. Shame he didn't properly prep back then. Vitor was the better fighter

I love all the defense that Johnson is getting in this thread. He contractually agreed to fight at 185, had quite possibly the worst camp / weight cut of all time and is fans are like "what'd you expect? he had a bad weight cut" and that's pretty much it lol.

Yep. In hindsight, it's crazy that he ever made WW. He is the most extreme weight cutter I ever recall seeing. I'm glad he's at his proper class now.

What I don't like is people acting like killing himself to make those classes didn't have anything to do with some of his poor performances.

Yes, he is responsible for all that. What people don't like is others acting like he was 100% in those fights. Obviously it was his fault, but that doesn't mean he was fighting to the best of his ability. There is a clear difference.

He may not have been 100%, but on the other hand he had the advantage of fighting much smaller guys.

It would be if vitor first made 155 multiple times. Rumble had just fought at ww before that fight.

I get what you are saying but the analogy was a bit off

True, but he went beyond the point of diminishing returns.

205 Rumble murders everyone he lost to at lower weight classes.

Exactly dude. They could be like "well I wasn't at 100 percent either because my opponent outweighed me by 40 pounds at the time of the fight"

Yea fuck that. Any Vitor fans wanting the rematch to bring him back to contendership? thats what i thought

He had no business fighting at middlweight in the first place

Vitor is such a slouch in the standup, I can't believe Rumble was so scared to engage in striking.
