This is a response to this thread: http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/conor-haters-are-repressed-losers-angry-at-life.3194965/ Wanted to make my own post all things considered.
Maybe I have no life, though arguably more than the OP in the above thread based on post count avg, but as an MMA fan, not really a fighter fan (though I do tend to have a few favorites but not a fanboy) I find it ridiculous that I shouldn't be, at the very least, annoyed by the Conor hype. Watching MMA is a pastime of mine that I usually enjoy to the point of participating in a forum and dedicating a few+ hours out of my week to watch/follow like most others here. I have no problem with Conor's financial success. Shit, I wish more fighters were considering they put in the work to entertain me and have argued as much on here multiple times.
However, I'm no fan of hubris contrived or not. This is what I prefer to see. Aldo, enjoy your success. See.
Shit, you [McG troll/fans] have me defending Aldo's recent craziness. But hell, it's even more frustrating after the Diaz fight how crazy the hype/delusion got.
It was an insult to the intelligence of fans of the sport. Not to mention that Conor trolls/fanboys have made this forum unbearable time after time. You could almost never discuss things [somewhat] objectively. It never mattered that Conor was hittable, cutting tremendous amounts of weight to fight guys he disrespected as midgets, had a questionable ground game, or increasingly relied heavily on the power of his left hand. It's frustrating as a fight fan to simply see Conor disrespect the FW division, put it on hold indefinitely at the time, and act borderline delusional, if not completely towards the higher weight classes. This all the while his fans stormed Sherdog.
It brings me too, where do we draw the line between self-belief and delusion? Hype and disrespect? You know, this guy talked shit not only about other fighters who've worked their asses off, but about entire countries and their families. The guy that called Siver a nazi. To Conor fans, where do you draw the line? Some of you guys were comparing this man to Ali ffs. Ali, said some deep shit, mainly to Frazier, but the time were different and arguably, especially considering the eras, was a lot more respectful to his opponents.
You know, if i started shitting on my employees/friends/family/etc. and definitely if I started to have delusions of grandeur that affected others, I'd hope to be called out. Conor was legit about to tie up three divisions based on 1, arguably, 2 good wins at the weight class he's been killing himself to make all the while creating a Bieber-level fanbase.
Back to Aldo, dude took so much shit for over a year. So much. You could tell how emotionally invested he was when he lunged and the crying after the defeat. I believe he really felt he had all of Brazil on his back, especially after the shit Conor said. Add in the fact that RDA said that ppl have been talkiing shit in Brazil + the disrespect for Aldo on here (which usually makes its way to social media IME) + the lack of an immediate rematch, it's no surprise he has had a screw or two come loose.
Also, again, please spare me the "how much money do I make" arguments. I don't want to be a professional fighter as I have other dreams and money isn't that important to me (though I recognize it's importance in a capitalistic society). It's that simple and I'm doing alright currently as well as actively working towards a better tomorrow for society as a whole despite how little recognition/success I may receive at the end of my life compared to your lord and savior, Conor.
I guess, at the end of the day, it's simply a difference in ideology. Just try not to project so hard is all. And yeah, I do feel better after this less than 10 minute post.
