Reminder: Ariel Helwani thinks MMA shouldn't be called Violent

on TSN before a fight card, actually , after every commercial break, WARNING this program may contain VIOLENCE

Helwani has never stepped in a ring or a mat, unless it was to interview someone, therefore I feel his opinion on the sport is severely limited...he doesn't train and I can't take someone's view on fighting seriously who hasn't experienced the true highs and lows of actually being In there

Helwani has never been a fan of the sport of MMA period. He never talks about fights. He talks about tweets, gossip, promotion, money but the actually fight stuff doesn't excite him in the least.

The way he tried to call out Francis after he starched Overeem shows he doesn't know wtf it's like to be a fighter. Deal with the nerves, fear, anxiety and desperation to win. All he cares about is the fan fare wwe bullshit.
Thank you someone for seeing that, he's a glorified gossip junkie.
MMA is some soap opera to him, granted with the landscape now it only empowers his bullshit.

All he was saying is that he thinks it's not a good way to promote a fight as just "violence" especially coming from the UFC. To boil down a fight to just "violence" undersells it. Fighting is an art and it's beautiful among other things.

Violence is an oversimplification of what's happening and poor marketing. The fans are supposed to see violence and the UFC is supposed to tell the masses why it's so much more. People watching mma and only seeing violence are why it's a niche sport. If everyone knew what went into it and what was actually happening it might be closer to the mainstream.

God bless anyone who watches The MMA Beat on a regular basis.

Goddamn, I know some of you don't read so good but you can't even watch the clip, lol. It's a viable point of discussion in terms of how you promote the sport.

I'll take an early stoppage over a late one all the time, every time.

I'll take a legit stoppage over an early or late one. Every time.

You can't just call things early and act like it's not a big deal. You are stealing opportunity away from fighters that make comebacks which have happened many times in the past.

I just want proper legit stoppages. Those of us that have watched since the sport began know what they are.

Micky Gall perfectly broke him down perfectly in the first 5 minutes of this. "Schmuky reporter". Fucking nailed it. All these stupid conference call ambush's.

this is probably the first thread I've ever made about Ariel Helwani

You are a Sherdogger - Singular

I said Sherdoggers - Plural

It's not always about you.

This is the same guy that watched figure skating once and got offended because a girl danced to the theme song from Schindler's List... a movie about a WW2 hero.

Someone needs to take away his Twitter account. They obviously already took away his balls.

Helwani likes the drama aspects of mma. That's why some fighters don't like him. He'll try to get you to tell your inner secrets, complain about your teammates or anything of the sort.

It's a violent sport which needs rules basically to prevent fighters from dying.

So yeah, we're watching violence in a controlled setting, so that we can enjoy it as an expression of human potentialities, but part of the fun is taking life to its limits - even if we don't want to recognize it as a sport against life, which I don't think it is anyways.

Very well said.
