Remember when Sage Northcutt was a thing?

I don't think anybody was saying he'd ever be a champion or contender

sherdog loves jacked handsome guys, always a big hype train on here

Did he ever fight again after he got his face broken, or did that make him decide he was too pretty to be a fighter?
He fought again and won by submission. He looked greatly improved in his last fight but has been very inactive.

Sage is the textbook example of a "martial artist" not a fighter.

Really seemed like a genuinely good human, pretty smart, exceptionally kind and polite.

His career was managed poorly by predatory greedy men like his dad and Dana White.

I wish him well. He is a talented athlete and could still have success in combat sports if he handles his career right.

Would love to see him in karate combat.

Honestly he could probably still be a ranked guy in the UFC. Maybe not top 5, but likely 8-15 or so at LW or WW.

Sage Northcut was only 22 years old when he left the UFC, and was on a 3 fight winning streak.

The idea that he was some jabroni can is massively overblown. People often talk like he got the S kicked out of him and was cut, that was pretty far from the truth. He lost to another prospect when he was 20 years old, otherwise his UFC career was fine.

He got a big injury that derailed his career, but he's hardly done. He's not even 30 yet.

I remember hating him because of all the hype. Then I found out a while later that he always appeared humble and that if anything it was the fans and the media turning him into the golden child. If that's correct and he was humble and nice it makes me question how many more fighters I could enjoy if I wasn't so anti-hypetrain having to here it nonstop on the forums and the media. For example, I've haven't been a Jones fan pretty much from the beginning because we had everyone and Joe Rogan talking about Jones fighting Velasquez even before Jones fought Shogun and won the title in the first place. That kind of stuff just kills my mood.
For that exact reason, I watch all fights on mute and don’t browse MMA websites. And I come here mostly for gifs and recaps, definitely not opinions. It makes it super easy to like skilled fighters. You can appreciate even the most over-hyped and underrated fighters. It also helps that I don’t have any social media. Maybe give all that a try and see if it makes MMA more enjoyable.

He was never a thing, he had the look at the time the UFC was going for, in both Northcutt and Van Zant, too bad they weren’t great fighters.

He had a decent career for a bit. He could win against low level opponents while looking pretty and doing some cool flips.

Then they fed him a killer who literally smashed his face in. Kind of ended things there.
