Remember when Sage Northcutt was a thing?

Like others said, people saw the front flip and the abs and that was enough to make him popular, because we live in the most superficial and materialistic world.

Nobody he lost to Gall who is barely bottom level UFC

How many Sherbros bought into the hype be honest?

Sage was one of the first guys who rise up as some new age MMA fighter. He was a 15-0 Kickboxer, 5-1 in amateur MMA and 5-0 pro at 19 when he won his UFC debut. He had an insane physique, model good looks and was a freak athlete...kid was dunking basketballs, deadlifting and bench pressing freakish weights, jumping up and kicking ceilings and doing wild flips. Sage also wrestled throughout highschool and did BJJ tournaments.

That said? Whatever "it" is/was, he never had it. He was the largest 155er I'd ever seen too, forget about Tibau. I remember hating his hype from the Trevino win onwards and I remember Luke Thomas and Ariel doubling down even after he lost to fucking Barberena that you'd be a fool if you thought he'd never be something special in MMA and potentially a champion because of how young he is blah blah blah. A lot of people said he'd be champ one day, kinda like they did with Rory and Erick Silva and a bunch of other young standouts immediately.

Sherdog's biggest gay obsession ever, and THAT is saying something.
There's people that still claim to be Conor fanboys...in 2024. The level of gay is equal to Dennis Hallman's balls being burned into your 1080i tv screen from being paused using Tivo in excess.

The only thing I can think of that could be any gayer is promoting Jake Paul.

He had a win last year. he is back and fully healthy. combat athletes have taken much worse damage and came back to fight. let's not forget he was cut from UFC after 3 win streak, he wasn't some bum.
Sage is a pro, and still only 28. He will be fine.

He's got good sponsors and can honestly go a fitness influence and stuntman/actor type route.

Things could have worked out different if Sage would have taken the Diaz bros up on their offer to come train with them

Sage can now be found outside your local Circle K

I remember hating him because of all the hype. Then I found out a while later that he always appeared humble and that if anything it was the fans and the media turning him into the golden child. If that's correct and he was humble and nice it makes me question how many more fighters I could enjoy if I wasn't so anti-hypetrain having to here it nonstop on the forums and the media. For example, I've haven't been a Jones fan pretty much from the beginning because we had everyone and Joe Rogan talking about Jones fighting Velasquez even before Jones fought Shogun and won the title in the first place. That kind of stuff just kills my mood.

Not sure why he catches so much hate. 12-3 pro record ain't bad. Yeah, not one of the best but has some talent. On the receiving end of one of the worst KOs I have seen resulting in multiple face fractures and 9hrs of surgery but there are definitely worse fighters out there.

Remember when Mickey Gall was a thing

Remember when Erick Silva was a thing

Remember when Johnny Walker and Costa were the new killers who were totally going to beat the champs of their division

Remember when people though Vick VS Justin was a 50/50 fight

Remember when people thought Cowboy was gonna beat Justin

Remember when we thought Tony was gonna run through Justin
but do you remember Goran Reljic?

I never bought the Sage hype, but I'll give him his props in the fitness world. Dude is shredded, that ain't easy.

Last I saw he was hocking clean eating meal kits on social media. He's prob making a ton more doing that than he ever did fighting.
