The trial is over now, apparently they tried to turn the whole thing into a race issue, albeit, the guy was on video beating the shit out of a women while her three year old looked on.

He's still facing up to life in prison, which is good. Hopefully that guy never gets out.

I think any defense lawyer that had video of the arresting officers using racial slurs would make it about race. I could never be a lawyer because it's such a lame defense.

It seems like their defence was about trying to convince the jury that the suspect was in fact framed by police, as if they had maybe planted the evidence (the clothes with blood) and arrested the wrong suspect (because of racism? Possibly because of previously being aware of the suspect for other crimes?) and that the video presented was not clear enough to positively identify the man and thus the case, which rested on other evidence, wasn't strong because of the officer's bias (racism).

If that was their angle, it seems like it would be very hard to show that level of conspiracy in the trial.

I don't think the defence lawyers argument was "they're racist let him go" so much as "he didn't do it".

If that guy's lawyer was forced to take his clients big black pee pee in his butt everyday in prison with him, until the day they both died I would be somewhat satisfied with the outcome.
