Alves was fkn awesome. I remember watching him vs GSP and thinking damn this guy isnt even getting tired and thought he might be the champ if GSP werent around. Such a shame injuries did him in.

What shocked me was how his skill declined so fast. I mean, everyone talks about the brainfart takedown attempt against Kampmann, but it was impressive as hell how he dominated Kampmann on the ground earlier in the fight, the same Kampmann who was competitive on the ground with Jake Shields. Alves showed he had a monster top game, solid takedown defense, and wicked leg kicks and striking. Yet, he lost to Jim Miller recently. I would have never figured his skills would decline enough to lose to a Jim Miller-style fighter.
