The first fight was at WW purely because they only had ten days to set up the fight but why now on a few months notice?

The only reason I can think of is trying to get Nate out of his comfort zone in a weight class he hasn't competed in for years. Conor would probably have a better chance at not gassing so early if he fought at lightweight. On the other hand we've seen Nate keep up a pace even well conditioned fighters cant keep up with. I think they know it would be near impossible for him to beat an in shape Nate Diaz at LW and are hoping he slips up early in the fight. Hes still gonna beat that ass down at WW and have a similar gas tank.
Which is why it seems retarded to have the fight at this weight when its probably gonna be more of a disadvantage to Conor then Nate.

That's my reason anyone have an alternative?

I would think forcing Nate to cut to LW would make it harder on him than to not.

Thread is dumb. Yeah, the LW fighter will be more out of his element at WW than the FW fighter... did you think at all before you typed that out?

The dumbest thing about this is that they have the FW champ taking yet another one off fight in another weight class instead of defending his belt. Seems to me like they're avoiding having him defend that belt so that they can keep marketing him as a champ even when he loses.

True but its his natural weight class and he looked great in his last fight cardio wise imagine conor taking five rounds of those 1-2s. im not saying its definitely this but i cant think of anyone other reason. conor would probably be better off in a weight class hes fought before aswell.

So is it set this is going to be at 170?

Nate must be loving this. He gets a full camp this time, knows he doesn't have to cut 1 pound and will still be fighting a smaller guy. A guy that he just beat btw. For another multi-million dollar purse and even more fame.

It's good to be nate right now. This sounds like a dream fight.

The alternative (and real) reason is this:

If Conor loses a second time to Nate at 170, he'll likely need to go down to 145 to defend, but in theory the 155 title shot is still available to him after that.

If Conor loses to Nate at 155, how are you going to justify giving him a title shot at LW without beating a couple of LWs first?

The UFC and Conor are hedging their bets.

No doubt this fight is fucked up and shouldnt have been made im saying the same thing that their trying to get him to win a fight so bad before he ends up fighting frankie. But it looks like its gonna be this fight fight is gonna be booked so might aswell get used to it lol

I hadnt reAlized it would be at 170... FrAnkly, i think its foolish since the longer conor stays at 170 the harder it will be for him to get back down to 145. He built a lot of muscle in order to move up... Its not that easy to make it all just go away.

I dont actually think either guy has much of an advantage at 170. If any its in favor of diaz but not by much.

It seems as if it probably has more to do with Conor wanting to avenge the loss without excuses (I can see no other reason why this fight would take place at 170).

If I were Conor's coach, I'd want LW. That's where he should be fighting anyway and Nate makes a big cut to get there. 170 is 100% advantageous to Nate. He's not a speed fighter in the first place, it's not as if he's going to overmuscle himself, and he's dealing with a smaller fighter.

Nate at 170 is just Nate at 155 without the debilitating weight cut. Conor at 170 has to make a choice between mass and speed/cardio, and he's outsized regardless.

That makes perfect sense but man if they give conor the lightweight title fight after losing again and ignore the FW division that would be all kinds of fucked up

Another conspiracy theory, regardless what weight they fight (which I wish they wouldn't) Nate holds the advantage.

Your theory is wrong but I'll clear it up for you. They are fighting at 170 because if Conor somehow loses to Nate again he will still be on the fast track for the 155 belt. They would just say 170 is too much but he will smash RDA at 155 and that fight is still on. If he wins well it's just going to add to his legacy and his fights will keep getting even bigger.

If he they fought at 155 and he lost to Diaz, a guy who should be ranked somewhere between 5-10, then Conor would have to take at least 2 more LW fights before he got a chance to face the champ. He also wouldn't have had the chance to redeem himself at 170 and beating a guy who is just an ok LW does nothing for his legacy.

I hope explains it for you.

Nate is going to have endless cardio regardless of the weight.

For Conor to fight at WW he will have to be careful to not come in small and focus on bulking up which means it will be a struggle to really push cardio while training.

The best fight they could give Conor would be LW because he could probably get there with almost zero weight cut if he just focused on extreme cardio. Something that he has no chance without in a fight with Diaz.

Well at least Nate won't drop out in the last minute like those two Brazilian pansies

They want to rematch at WW by all indications so I think they want Conor to have a WW based camp.

Exactly a lightweight conor atleast isnt changing his body composition and putting on muscle its the last thing i would want to do if i had a tendency to slow down. I kind of want it to go into the later rounds to see how conors face would look if nate is popping him for four rounds lol

He's probably feeding Conor all the best PEDs known to man hoping that UberConor will be born and be able to defeat Nate. And UberConor can't even make 155.
