Regarding the "Uh, vai morrer" chants

Lmao, one reply in to a standard debate and already the gaslighting begins.

Nice buzzwords buddy. But to justify a chant of you're going to die , you have grouped people literally by skin color. Then grouped religion v whites.

You apparently believe white v black etc is a false debate . So why have you made it into whites v everyone? If whiteness is a concept why are you furthering it by placing people on opposing sides based on a concept?

Are you Dwight from the office? You can't tell the difference between the figurative and the literal? You don't know the difference between a sports' chant and a death threat? I'm not going to argue with you if you're going to act in bad faith and pretend you're a complete dumbass.

Would you americans fucking relax about it?

It's just a stupid chant that originated from the hit "Whoomp There It Is" by Tag Team.
That song was a huge hit worldwide and in Brazil as well, so some soccer fans started to chant UH TERERÊ after goals, which is phonetically what "Whoomp There It Is" sound to us brazilians.

There's still to this day some clubs which their fans chant that after each goal, as you can see here:

It got then changed in some contexts to "Uh, vai morrer", which just means you're gonna lose, we used to chant that in soccer tournaments in elementary school.

It's just a hyperbole, like you guys say for example "Khabib is a monster, if he fights that guy he's gonna kill him".

I'm brazilian and I don't even live in Brazil because of it's problems, but please stop acting like the crowds are wishing death on foreign fighters, EVERY SINGLE event in Brazil the commentary team brings it up like brazilians are a bunch of savages that would kill all the foreign fighters if the cage wasn't there.

Don't forget. All Brazilian most loved fighters lost yesterday, and no riot.
Even Sonnen (the most hated man at the top of his rivalry) was ever bothered when he went to film the TUF with Wandi.
The fucking guy has a fucking beach HOUSE in Brazil! He goes there (without security) on vacation!

People just try to feed the stereotype from the high of their ignorance.

I can clearly tell the difference. I still find the chant disgusting. What baffles me is how you're spinning it into this idea that ^ whites ^ only dislike it because well all whites hate browns and Muslims and blacks etc .

--snip--
First of all, if I could, I'd give you 10 likes for that, thanks for the topic TS.
Then, I never knew "Uh tê rê rê" spawned from "Whoomp there it is", but then back in the time I was the stereotype of a street punk. I'm gonna search that on youtube in a minute lol
Just want to add: Maybe the best analogy between literally speaking/figuratively speaking is the term "to steamroll", it's used often and we clearly understand it's not literally.

I recall threads complaining about it in the past but not really this event. After watching the Brazilians lose one after another, it just became laughable and now the only one actually complaining about it is TS, a Brazilian.

I despise people booing during national anthems too. Is that because I'm white ? Why bring colour into it at all , not only that . You imply all whites.

Too me the mass scale generalization about a group of people based purely on something as arbitrary as pigment is racist.

Not only that you throw religion in there. Why ?

I always daydreamed about walking out to 20k brazillians screaming "you will die"

This kinda spoils that....:(
Not at all, you just need to dress as the president for 2020's Salvador carnival instead. If you don't know who's he you can come dressed up as Trump as well.

Brazil is also known as democrat dreamland, they're are all concerned about "white people's problems" like racism and stuff, nobody cares about economy, employment or security.

USADA and the UFC should ban MMA in Brazil.

The chants don't bother me. The crowd booing Cannonier after Anderson hurt his leg did. Just rude...like they're surprised that their 43 year old hero got an old man injury in a fist fight. Is the Brazilian crowd really going to do anything? Probably not, but they're just rude for no reason. The hostility toward non Brazilians is just sad.

Imagine the hate Americans would get if we acted like that. My wife is Brazilian. Even she was disgusted with how the Brazilian crowd was acting.
Don't take this too seriously, Brazilians are the friendliest people on the planet, they're just passionate about their heroes.
I was at the event yesterday, it was just great atmosphere, nobody should take the chants seriously.

There is yet another context for that cheer, though. It is the context of the entire experience of watching a Brazil card. It just sucks.

The place literally sounds deserted when a Brazilian is losing. Then there is the fact all of the fights have to be a Brazilian pitted against a generally overmatched opponent, so the Brazilians "fans" will show up. Physical assaults on fighters who didn't show hespect (kiss ass). Throw on top of that the fact that they've been doing the same lame ass chant going on 30 years now.

The fact that they are saying "you're going to die" is just the last straw in a putrid atmosphere. The fans from the rest of the planet are basically robbed of any enjoyment every time one of these shit Brazil card comes along. One of the easiest things for us to funnel our frustration into is that that stupid fucking "cheer", so that's why it gets the hate.
What the fuck are you talking about?

The chants at a sporting event don't bother me so much. I'd be more nervous visiting Brazil after hearing about how Alex Oliveira had a freaking grenade thrown at him after an altercation at a gas station. I mean, shitty stuff can happen to you here in America too. We have way too much gun violence. But never in my wildest dreams would I consider that I may get a grenade thrown at me if I have words with someone at a gas station LOL.

Brazilian crowds are animals period.
Yelling "You're going to die" would not happen with Japanese or German crowds lmao.
Let's not sugarcoat latin american fans for what they are not. They are fiery, they are racist as fuck, they are Nationalistic, and yes, they want their fighter to outright murder your fighter.

I don't blame them for that attitude. I think its hilarious to deny it though. I mean Brazil is a country where during the world cup you would get knifed if you walked with anything but a Brazilian flag in the streets....
You don't know what you're talking about, i was in Brazil for the world cup, nobody got knifed for wearing a different flag, are you out of your fuckin mind?

Sure. It’s harmless.
At the same time, it’s classless.
You reap what you sow, I guess.
<Fedor23>

Very well said. I understand that this chant (just like the Mexican National Football team’s supporters “puto” chant) is a tradition and not a symptom of some overwhelming hatred. However, just because I understand something, does not mean I have to agree with it.

Happened in Germany I'm pretty sure... Not brazil

Although there was a amateur ref who was beheaded and quartered and his head put on a stake. On the field. That was years ago tho

Yes. The crowd doesnt want anyone dead. Stop bitching about It.
A lot of fighter say that they Will kill the opponent too, and everyone understands in the figurative way. Its a fight sport, the gentleman are the exceptions.

Good point. A lot of liberal Americans don't like their own country and take no Pride in it. I'm not saying we are without faults, but it is one of the better places to live when compared to other countries around the world.

Canadians tend to stick their nose up at us too. A lot of them think they are superior when in fact our cultures are pretty much the same.

There are many similarities between American and Canadian culture for sure, but there's some very big differences too. Hence the reason we're ranked #1, and America #17
