Regarding my fight career.

I’d only consider you professional if you were full time but then again we have stipe. Seriously who cares what others think of you!

I think if you have the courage to lace em up and step in there, you deserve it.

it’ll never happen for me because my superior genetics won’t allow me to make the HW limit

I think ts would be better stating that he has fought professionally rather than saying he's a pro fighter

I doubt real pros would class him as a pro fighter with just a single fight. Just a guy that's fought professionally

For me professional,is how someone makes a living.

There are different levels of pro. He is way closer in comparison to amateur fighters than a seasoned Pro who makes a living,or at least some real money fighting

I tip my hat to you mate, anyone who has the balls to step in the ring , getting a punch in the chops to test themselves for shits and giggles deserves some respect. Especially on an MMA forum.
You are out there having a go...

Did you fight as a pro fighter?
You did. So you are / were a pro fighter . You had one pro fight. Good for you.

Can't take that away.

I would be very proud of those accomplishments. I think people should be proud to go train and step into a cage for an ammy fight.

Not everyone has to defend the ufc belt ten times to be considered an accomplishment.

I fought ammy in boxing and won. Very proud of that. Not claiming to be the next Mike Tyson, you can have another career and pursue excellence in mma or the martial arts.

Don't let someone on sherdog get you done for something this small.

You've fought professionally.

Not all of us are dicks and want others here to succeed in whatever.

Best of luck in the future.

Curious what people on here think. I know I'm leaving myself WIDE open to roasting but I don't care lol I get punched in the face regularly by way tougher people than sherdog trolls. The guy who called me out on it was actually respectful about it... so I took his criticism seriously.
Who gives a shit what some loser on the internet says?

This place is filled with some of the biggest losers in life and chances are the guy that replied to you fits exactly that description.

You know it's some dweeb who hates themselves on the inside so they lash out at others to hide their own shortcomings.

Dude who cares what people think or say. Did you fight in a professional capacity? If the answer is yes, then you're a pro fighter.

Even if it's just 1 pro fight I don't really see the reason to laugh or question the tag. The tag isn't saying "I dedicated my whole life to fighting" or "I am a badass" it simply is saying they have fought and technically are a fighter. I get what you're saying but I think what you're talking about only comes into play if the person with the tag is being a weirdo about it like trying to act like they are GSP when they only have 1 fight

Also just trying to say, people on here that haven't been around the scene may be surprised how easy it is to get a single pro fight. When I was at team tompkins/adrenaline, guys I knew and trained with were getting pro fights after small amounts of training and a few smokers, just to go get destroyed and fill out local cards against legitimate fighters.

The post is pretty fucking strange and pathetic.

Fk what anyone thinks but yourself. Be stoic and confident.

jesus christ, are you a pro fighter or not?

I'm taking it that you aren't - anyone needing validation from sherdog forums - the echo chamber of mma stupidity - is not a pro fighter

I can't even imagine if the pro fighters at my gym needed the kind of validation your'e requesting lmao

WTF

hes not a pro fighter, hes just an amatuer guy who thinks hes pro because he had one pro fight or whatever

Pro fighters are anyone who's career it is, or they are going all out for it to be
Ie ufc guys + guys in other top orgs. Or local guys who structure their whole life around getting their career off the ground

Not some guy who does it as a hobby. If that where the case half of my gym would be pro fighters

An argument can be made either way really. Since half the kids on here haven't been actually around the scene, I'm going to use an analogy they may understand.

If some 5 viewer streamer on twitch is making like 10 bucks a month on twitch, are they a professional streamer?

You’re a pro fighter. But to be fair being a professional fighter means almost nothing in terms of dedication and ability.
There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s just pro fighter is such a large spectrum it essentially doesn’t mean much until you get to the higher level regional circuits imo.

Tl:dr anyone can be a pro, so why not you.

I also don’t think you should worry about whether or not you deserve your sherdog tag lol. Just worry about how good you actually are as a fighter.

You 100% deserve the tag. You competed at a professional level, having a winning record or solid accomplishments in that field are irrelevant. The tag doesn’t require such things. You put some effort into MMA and made it to a professional level. Case closed.

Don’t let some of the guys on here make you question such things. I’ve lurked here for years before making an account and I’ve noticed a lot of the posters just like to talk trash. They look to get under people’s skin and it works a lot of the time. Sherdog has been known as infamous in the past for such reasons.

Anyways, keep the tag! You earned it and that can’t be taken away.

This may come across harsh, but it's fair
I have never fought in a cage as a fighter, so I respect anyone who has, amateur or professional

However, for me as I state earlier a real pro is a guy who has had at least a few fights

To be fair I was a sherbro long before I was a fighter. So yes I like to talk to the boys about stuff. Sherbros have been supportive for all my fights including my amatuer run.

So you are in the case study of people who think there is a specific threshhold one must cross in order to be considered a pro.

I'd would have fought twice last year if my opponent didn't pull, and I'll be fighting again soon. I'll be taking fights until I'm around 40. Prob 1 or 2 a year. Fighting doesn't put near the money on my table that real estate has and will, but I will continue and will be making a few grand win or lose each time.

TBH I know I deserve the tag because of what I've been through. One example is the fact that I was able to make weight alone after a 45lb cut when so many UFC level pros can't make weight with a 20lb cut is proof enough for me. I was totally professional regardless of the loss, signed to fight again and my opponent pulled.

This is a study for me to see who has the "threshhold" opinion. I'll pull the screen back and say that I think it's complete bullshit to hold fighters to that standard. I respect anyone who fights, even if it's one ama fight.

Thanks for sharing though, I appreciate your opinion.

How come people care that much about a tag on an internet forum? The guy had a pro fight, if he wants the pro fighter tag he can have it... he earned it by getting punched in the face for money.

@OP, good luck on your next fight. Hope you kick his ass and report back to the rest of us keyboard warriors.
