Regarding my fight career.

If you have an amateur record then you're an amateur. If you have a pro record then you're a pro. Who cares if it's just 1 fight it's not like you are trying to use that tag to pretend like you're a world champion or something

Meh somewhat agree, I think there's tons of people on here with more experience than him, I think it's strange how much he cares about the tag.
I'm older, with significantly more amateur experience, have got money to be part of training sessions/camps, does that make me a pro?
Back 20 years ago when I first started getting into the scene in Ontario, I had friends that had less than a year of training, a few smokers and would get tossed on random pro local cards.
If it means a bunch to someone, have the tag, but people aren't wrong, if you've been around the scene enough you're going to see some hilarious scenarios where people have a single pro fight. I have no clue how this is regulated now

A poster recently claimed I don't deserve my tag. Im interested in some opinions.

I had a decent little run in Canada and somehow was considered #1 on tapology in Canada after 3 fights. I'm not sure if I totally deserved that but it was given to me and I was happy about it. I fought twice at 170 and once at 155.

I went pro and lost by RNC in the first round. That fight is available on youtube and easy to search. Felt good in there but I made mistakes. Got taken down and back taken, and in the prep I cut way too much weight at my EX coaches behest. He insisted that I drop from 190 to 145. 45lb cut in a month while working a normal job and no nutritionist or doctor is something I'm proud I was able to do, but it was stupid in hindsight.

I signed to fight again last sept but my opponent pulled.

The poster said I didn't deserve the pro fighter tag because I'm 0-1.

I feel like I earned the tag because I went through wars in amatuer, came out on top, and stepped in there against a young and very talented kid for my pro debut. I knew the weight cut was going to be devastating to experience but I did it anyways, went in there in front of my hometown and lost, and didn't bitch and moan after. I went back to the gym and signed to fight in september.

I guess my question is... do I deserve to be considered a pro? I'm fighting again next year after my wedding. I find it interesting that people all have there own outlook on what a pro athelete is and isn't. To that poster credit he didn't realize I signed for my second fight and the dude pulled after I already cut 20lb. Was a real bummer.

I'll admit I'm 34 and fight as a hobby. I'm a real estate agent and a music teacher. I do this shit for fun so I'm very proud of myself that I was able to do what I've done so far and am looking forward to my next fight. Never cutting 40 plus lb again though, that was a bonehead move and I only did it out of loyalty to my old coach. I followed his suggestion to the tee, it was the only fight of mine he was involved in, and I suffered for it.
Whichever sack of shit suggested that you don't deserve the tag needs an attitude adjustment.

Curious what people on here think. I know I'm leaving myself WIDE open to roasting but I don't care lol I get punched in the face regularly by way tougher people than sherdog trolls. The guy who called me out on it was actually respectful about it... so I took his criticism seriously.

You earned it sir, fuck what other people say.

Even if it's just 1 pro fight I don't really see the reason to laugh or question the tag. The tag isn't saying "I dedicated my whole life to fighting" or "I am a badass" it simply is saying they have fought and technically are a fighter. I get what you're saying but I think what you're talking about only comes into play if the person with the tag is being a weirdo about it like trying to act like they are GSP when they only have 1 fight

If you've got the courage to step into a ring/cage and make some cash, who is anyone here to tell you you're not what you say you are? You do you. That poster could be 12 for all we know, or a pathetic basement keyboard warrior who doesn't change his socks.

"Who doesn't change his socks" made me howl sir lol.

Who cares if some dudes on here think you don't deserve your tag. 0-1 or not, you got paid to fight, you're a pro. End of story.

I'm more interested in the music teacher part. How the hell is that a thing? Aside from that, you deserve your tag.

If you fought pro, then you deserve the tag. I don’t care if you are 0-100. You have my respect. You got in there and fought someone. Many people are too pussy to do any of what you said. Hell, many people are too scared to go to a jiu jitsu competition. Hell, most people won’t even go to the jiu jitsu gyms.

If you have a professional fight you're a pro. So, the tag.

But there's been some discussion about the validity of it. Anyone can go pro. You can have zero talent and get a license to compete. Sign a contract in a small org. Maybe need the money. Go in there and lose, but get paid. Or just try it as a bucket list thing. Maybe it's a passion, but all with passion can't be rock stars.

All those things are a discussion about skill. Are you skilled enough to be a pro? Should there be some change in licensing? Can you go 0-12 and call yourself a pro?

I guess a decider is the taking damage part. Even if you have no business being in there your body still takes damage. That is part of being a pro. Most of us want none of that. Other ways to get paid.

But some 0-1 guys go "well, as a pro I can totally relate to Fedor". No, you can't. That's also where the criticism or distaste comes from. The tag doesn't encompass the whole field and it can be used as bragging rights.

Well i wonder how many sherdogers who are bitching all the time accually fought in their lives ( sherdog as a whole is a mix bag, you have some quality people here).
I respect that. I fought alot as amateur , never went pro. And if youre healty and stuff why not.

You're not the first "pro fighter" on sherdog who never actually won a pro fight.

LOL that powerslap shit is nuts.
I would never let someone hit me full power. They also do bas rutten slaps with the wrist. It's so dangerous and goofy.
You should explain this to @BEATDOWNS. He seems to be under the impression that it's safer than MMA.

You'll always be a real fighter to me. Fuck the haters who put shit on you.

”Hey guys I’m a professional fighter and someone on the internet said I wasn’t.”

See where you made the wrong turn? You are a pro fighter, it can be proven and that’s that.

<WhatItIs>

You had a Professional Fight where you got paid, thusly, you are a Professional Fighter, win or lose.
