Regarding my fight career.

This is a heavies topic?

I mean on topic yeah obviously you're a pro and deserve it. Who cares what some keyboard warrior thinks.

Talking about the sherdog pro fighter classification I sure don't have a problem with it for whatever it's worth. You've earned it imo. Good luck in you're next fight.
I'm not above criticism, and if it's relatively valid then I will think on it.
That is great. You had the mindset, did the hard work, had the guts to engage in battle and got paid for it.
That is the definition a pro. Win/loss record Does Not change what you've done. Congrats !

Pro and amateur is basically the same in MMA. Pro just means you fought in a slightly more organized setting and the local commission sanctioned it as “professional”. If you made the walk you deserve the pro tag imo, especially since you actually had several amateur fights.

A poster recently claimed I don't deserve my tag. Im interested in some opinions.

I had a decent little run in Canada and somehow was considered #1 on tapology in Canada after 3 fights. I'm not sure if I totally deserved that but it was given to me and I was happy about it. I fought twice at 170 and once at 155.

I went pro and lost by RNC in the first round. That fight is available on youtube and easy to search. Felt good in there but I made mistakes. Got taken down and back taken, and in the prep I cut way too much weight at my EX coaches behest. He insisted that I drop from 190 to 145. 45lb cut in a month while working a normal job and no nutritionist or doctor is something I'm proud I was able to do, but it was stupid in hindsight.

I signed to fight again last sept but my opponent pulled.

The poster said I didn't deserve the pro fighter tag because I'm 0-1.

I feel like I earned the tag because I went through wars in amatuer, came out on top, and stepped in there against a young and very talented kid for my pro debut. I knew the weight cut was going to be devastating to experience but I did it anyways, went in there in front of my hometown and lost, and didn't bitch and moan after. I went back to the gym and signed to fight in september.

I guess my question is... do I deserve to be considered a pro? I'm fighting again next year after my wedding. I find it interesting that people all have there own outlook on what a pro athelete is and isn't. To that poster credit he didn't realize I signed for my second fight and the dude pulled after I already cut 20lb. Was a real bummer.

I'll admit I'm 34 and fight as a hobby. I'm a real estate agent and a music teacher. I do this shit for fun so I'm very proud of myself that I was able to do what I've done so far and am looking forward to my next fight. Never cutting 40 plus lb again though, that was a bonehead move and I only did it out of loyalty to my old coach. I followed his suggestion to the tee, it was the only fight of mine he was involved in, and I suffered for it.
with all due respect, i don't give a fuck. no one really does. if you're asking for the opinions of other internet strangers on sherdog, you've already lost. go get attention somewhere else.

Do you still play guitar in that band? We discussed that once upon a time. Screw training and fighting. Play Rock and Roll instead. I know which one I’d rather be doing.

Just my opinion.

Yes, you had a pro fight, you are a pro fighter. There is no implied winning in the term fighter. People should have more respect for the loser of a fight.

There also shouldn't be such a taboo on losing/failing, in general. If you are afraid to fail, you won't risk what is necessary to evolve and improve yourself and what is necessary to reach your goals. At least, that's if you listen to your fear.

We all make mistakes and we all fail. No need to delegitimize someone's endeavor or occupation, because it didn't work out the way it was intended. You still tried to win and you fought, so you are a fighter and you did it for pay, so you are a pro fighter.

And you are planning to fight again, so it all applies currently. It's not like you are retired, either.

I appreciate all the kind words from a lot of the posters here. Thanks everyone, Sherdog is a good community.

I've trained with Pros that had no business even fighting. I've seen absolute cans show up and get washed because they don't train but they're "pros"
I think as long as you train like a pro and dedicate enough time to stay in shape and get better in the gym you should be proud to rep yourself as a pro, nobody knows how much you grind but you. I only competed as an AMMY so I guess I have no right to input lol but I have cornered top 15 canadian fighters.... I think the hours in the gym mean more than how many pro fights somebody has.

Twenty years ago I intervened when a snobbish Mexican national was harassing three girls in a Whataburger in south Texas.

The snobby guy slapped me in the face.

I beat him up in Whataburger.

The police arrived. I got cuffed and stuffed. The snob was cuffed and put in a different cruiser.

The police interviewed everyone. Half the patrons were Mex nationals. Half the police were bilingual Mexican Americans.

I could only understand about a third of what was being said.

A few minutes later, they uncuffed me and apologized. They booked the snob.

You can't do that now. You'll get shot.

Anyway, can I get an Amateur Fighter tag?

You seem like a nice guy, so I’d consider you a pro fighter just so I don’t have to label you as a real estate agent. One of the scummiest professions possible.
Do not talk about paulo costa, chael sonnen, and Al Iquinta like that!

You can probably KO Ben Askren in a striking battle.

Need your max bench, yearly income, height, and penis size to make a determination

Former amatuer boxer here. I know what it takes to prepare yourself to get in there even at the amateur level. If you had that type of dedication and put in the time to be a pro...you are a pro. It doesn't matter what your record is.

Challenge the poster to a pro mma bout.... then he can get a Pro Fighter tag and stop being such a jealous bitch?

Oh.... wear it with pride, buddeh.

I don't see any problem with the pro tag or you calling yourself a professional. You've put in the work / training in your amateur career to gain real fighting skills.

However, since you posed the question, I wouldn't necessarily call or consider you a professional athlete / fighter. I would reserve that title for athletes that actually train and compete full-time. As well as earn full-time wages from competing in their sport.

I think it's pretty cool that you competed professionally but I just wouldn't say that you're a professional fighter.

To me a pro fighter is someone that fights as their main or only job. By your own admission you say it's a hobby or a side hustle. I wouldn't consider you a pro fighter but I also would understand if you considered yourself one as technically that is correct.
