Regarding my fight career.

You really let yourself care about something someone on the internet told you?

He was respectful and made a point. I'm just human, I let him in my head a bit. Didn't help that I lost bad in front of friends and family. Those experiences are hard my sherbro. I'm not above criticism, and if it's relatively valid then I will think on it.

Technically a pro by definition; can't argue that. There's a litany of guys in Canada who have had 1 or 2 pro fights and nothing else, it's not a arduous pathway. Now making a bigger promotion and making a living at it, that's different

Ya, after the sponsors I made about 2G.
The literal sense should be sufficient imo.
I don't know if there's a publicly available list on the guys on here that got the Pro label, but from what I've seen, it's not a whole lot of guys, so why not give it to those few who have worked harder than the rest of the guys on here.
If you go 0-3 we can have the discussion again, but for now this isn't even that controversial since you had Amateur bouts. That's my opinion.

It doesn't matter what the result. You fought and you got paid.

I only read the first half. Won 3 amy fights. Did a pro fight, got another one lined up. Yes you deserve the pro Tag.

I think posters who fight cans in Thailand who are paid to lose vs tourists to attract them to spend more money, those are iffy.

Yours is legit.

Good luck on your next fight.

That's totally fair. I was fairly confident about the last guy... too bad he pulled. I'll be in there again late this year or early next. I'd like 5-6 pro fights before calling it. I don't do it for money or fame, it's purely because I watched too many bruce lee movies growing up.

Your a pro fighter but a can
I love that you took the time to capitalize "Your" and forgot it's "You're"
I'm the one with brain damage, cmon son.

I'll win my next one :D
Training and fighting and being around other fighters makes calling other fighters a "can" feel so dirty lmao. Like technically I am one and I know a lot of people that would be called "cans" on here and on the internet but at the same time I know these fighters are busting their ass in the gym and have legitimate skills and stuff like that. Brutal sport lol.

He meant to say:

"You're a Can...adain."

I can see both sides tbh. If someone has only 1 pro mma fight, loses in the first round, quits competing then goes around for the rest of his life saying "I'm an ex pro mma fighter" it's a bit sketchy. But you don't seem like that guy and if we're just talking about the sherdog pro fighter classification I sure don't have a problem with it for whatever it's worth. You've earned it imo. Good luck in you're next fight.

You're not a pro until you make it all the way to the UFC.

Ya, I fully intend to fight again. It's a hell of a rush.

Ya I fought twice there in 2019 a few months separated... then covid borderline ruined my mma aspirations. Didn't fight for a couple years. Found out my ex was cheating on me the week before my third fight at MFL and still won. Proud of my mindset for getting me through that experience.

Absolutely shitty bro....women make problems man..

But u approached it right man...to step in and fight on with all that noise going on is crazy ...

Covid basically wiped out the gym i use to train out of for Japanese jiu-jitsu and the other gym closures here ( general fitness,Muay thai, etc) basically meant i couldn't get the training as an amateur i needed to feel ready to fight... So i had to postpone again ..

Im currently in search of new home base and gathering funds to go again for it ...i just dont want to be old one day and have regrets of not at least competing in some form or way in MMA... plus on top of that i really enjoy training and helping others...coaching would absolutely be something i would do , would like to have a fight record to fall back on for that as well...

You got paid for a fight, that technically makes you a pro. Pathways are varied. People conflate pro athletes with top leagues and organization. India, Indonesia have "pro" hockey leagues. If thier players get played to play, they are technically pro hockey players.

Ive debated this myself for my personal endeavors

It’s more about 1) have you paid your dues? In my mind you more than have
2) are you ready to make that move? It’s sounds like you are confident and ready

You are a pro.

Very few people will ever understand the grind of going through the ammy circuit, the constant pull outs, shitty promotions and shady business--let alone the physical toll training at that level does to you mentally and physically. MMA is brutal sport with hardly any pay off. I myself thought about fighting 10 years ago, but I saw what others went through and just stuck to competing in grappling after being realistic about how much effort I could dedicate to it. At least you put yourself out there and no one can question your resolve. Blessings!

A poster recently claimed I don't deserve my tag. Im interested in some opinions.

I had a decent little run in Canada and somehow was considered #1 on tapology in Canada after 3 fights. I'm not sure if I totally deserved that but it was given to me and I was happy about it. I fought twice at 170 and once at 155.

I went pro and lost by RNC in the first round. That fight is available on youtube and easy to search. Felt good in there but I made mistakes. Got taken down and back taken, and in the prep I cut way too much weight at my EX coaches behest. He insisted that I drop from 190 to 145. 45lb cut in a month while working a normal job and no nutritionist or doctor is something I'm proud I was able to do, but it was stupid in hindsight.

I signed to fight again last sept but my opponent pulled.

The poster said I didn't deserve the pro fighter tag because I'm 0-1.

I feel like I earned the tag because I went through wars in amatuer, came out on top, and stepped in there against a young and very talented kid for my pro debut. I knew the weight cut was going to be devastating to experience but I did it anyways, went in there in front of my hometown and lost, and didn't bitch and moan after. I went back to the gym and signed to fight in september.

I guess my question is... do I deserve to be considered a pro? I'm fighting again next year after my wedding. I find it interesting that people all have there own outlook on what a pro athelete is and isn't. To that poster credit he didn't realize I signed for my second fight and the dude pulled after I already cut 20lb. Was a real bummer.

I'll admit I'm 34 and fight as a hobby. I'm a real estate agent and a music teacher. I do this shit for fun so I'm very proud of myself that I was able to do what I've done so far and am looking forward to my next fight. Never cutting 40 plus lb again though, that was a bonehead move and I only did it out of loyalty to my old coach. I followed his suggestion to the tee, it was the only fight of mine he was involved in, and I suffered for it.
Tag the poster who have you shit

My only loss was in my hometown. Big respect to you going pro and still grinding after a tough debut!

Did you get paid to fight? That makes you a pro. Being a pro fighter is not a big deal and anyone who puts in the effort can be one.
Do people sign up for these tags? Lol I've been oh here for years, fought a bunch, made money fighting... never even thought to look for a tag. Thought it was reserved for more name fighters that happen upon here.

Yes, you had a pro fight, you are a pro fighter. There is no implied winning in the term fighter. People should have more respect for the loser of a fight.

There also shouldn't be such a taboo on losing/failing, in general. If you are afraid to fail, you won't risk what is necessary to evolve and improve yourself and what is necessary to reach your goals. At least, that's if you listen to your fear.

We all make mistakes and we all fail. No need to delegitimize someone's endeavor or occupation, because it didn't work out the way it was intended. You still tried to win and you fought, so you are a fighter and you did it for pay, so you are a pro fighter.

And you are planning to fight again, so it all applies currently. It's not like you are retired, either.
