I certainly do feel like I earned it. My first amateur fight was a wash, but the next two were bloody wars. My pro fight was actually my least damaging fight lol. It's a wild feeling knowing you are staring down the barrel of a cage fight while you go through your day to day. Most low level pros... we work day jobs and have no nutritionist or support whatsoever. We get paid dogshit and we do it anyways. I'm proud of myself, but I'll admit that poster had me wondering about it. We compare ourselves against the elite in our minds BUT most of us are low level and just doing what we can.As a fellow canadian who's been wanting to fight amateur or pro MMA for awhile now..
You definitely have my hespetch...and ur definitely a Pro even if its a loss and only one fight...having multiple fights doesnt change whether or not it was at the pro level its just how many or how often you did it ..
What's most important is what you think and feel about it ... If you feel like you deserve to wear the tag after going through what you have ..then rock it bro
He insisted that I drop from 190 to 145. 45lb cut in a month while working a normal job and no nutritionist or doctor is something I'm proud I was able to do, but it was stupid in hindsight.
<{dayum}>LOL that powerslap shit is nuts.As long as you had a pro fight AND it was not in power slap, you're good to go.
A poster recently claimed I don't deserve my tag. Im interested in some opinions.
I had a decent little run in Canada and somehow was considered #1 on tapology in Canada after 3 fights. I'm not sure if I totally deserved that but it was given to me and I was happy about it. I fought twice at 170 and once at 155.
I went pro and lost by RNC in the first round. That fight is available on youtube and easy to search. Felt good in there but I made mistakes. Got taken down and back taken, and in the prep I cut way too much weight at my EX coaches behest. He insisted that I drop from 190 to 145. 45lb cut in a month while working a normal job and no nutritionist or doctor is something I'm proud I was able to do, but it was stupid in hindsight.
I signed to fight again last sept but my opponent pulled.
The poster said I didn't deserve the pro fighter tag because I'm 0-1.
I feel like I earned the tag because I went through wars in amatuer, came out on top, and stepped in there against a young and very talented kid for my pro debut. I knew the weight cut was going to be devastating to experience but I did it anyways, went in there in front of my hometown and lost, and didn't bitch and moan after. I went back to the gym and signed to fight in september.
I guess my question is... do I deserve to be considered a pro? I'm fighting again next year after my wedding. I find it interesting that people all have there own outlook on what a pro athelete is and isn't. To that poster credit he didn't realize I signed for my second fight and the dude pulled after I already cut 20lb. Was a real bummer.
I'll admit I'm 34 and fight as a hobby. I'm a real estate agent and a music teacher. I do this shit for fun so I'm very proud of myself that I was able to do what I've done so far and am looking forward to my next fight. Never cutting 40 plus lb again though, that was a bonehead move and I only did it out of loyalty to my old coach. I followed his suggestion to the tee, it was the only fight of mine he was involved in, and I suffered for it.
Arguably OP couldn't see his toes at 190You’re a pro fighter. The people claiming you aren’t probably haven’t seen their toes in years. Ignore them.

I love that you took the time to capitalize "Your" and forgot it's "You're"Your a pro fighter but a can
I always had to drive 10 hours to montreal for amateur. It costed me a ton of money to fight amateur. The pro fight was in my hometown. The feeling of losing in front of friends and family is tough. Is what it is.Where did u fight out of? Region wise? ..for your amateur and pro fights...
Just finding places to compete in Canada is a mission itself and something my younger days was near impossible cuz it was illegal at that time in Ontario ...let alone finding reputable promotions with proper opponents and weight classes ...non existent drug testing as well...

Ya I fought twice there in 2019 a few months separated... then covid borderline ruined my mma aspirations. Didn't fight for a couple years. Found out my ex was cheating on me the week before my third fight at MFL and still won. Proud of my mindset for getting me through that experience.Ya i think MFL( Montreal fight league) in Montreal is the biggest/most decent amateur promotion currently in this side of Canada...its probably where i would fight as well...5 plus hour drive for myself... I was in touch with them before COVID threw everything up into the air...
