They make low budget comedies, they're not supposed to be Mel Brooks- level comedic genius.Good ones?

I tried. Twice. Not even a smirk. Their best of the worst, reViews, and of course half in the bag are perfect.
Nerd Crew is a parody that is a TRY HARD parody. Shoulve played it straight, then it maybe funny.
I watch just about everything they do EXCEPT Nerd Crew.
Ill even watch the video game reviews. Just NOT Nerd Crew.
The star wars review of phantom menace was got me in; the Prometheus quick questions kept me, but Nerd Crew can go fucking fuck itself. Incredibly unfunny.
It's DP bro. Nobody in the industry says DOP lulz
What would happen if they made a SW movie and nobody showed up
They rose to popularity in an era when South Park and dark humor was more in style.
No matter how much I tell people online not to take them so seriously, they insist on scrutinizing every little thing they say or do as if they were the president of a major country - who aren't allowed to change their views/opinions on anything.
There is also this weird sentiment that RLM are angry men...I don't know where this comes from. They seem the happiest of any film channel on youtube. Where other movie channels have this conflicted tone in their attitude about the state of Hollywood....RLM come across like they made their peace with the fact that movies nowadays aren't for them - so they just said fuck it and decided to enjoy laughing and making fun of the film industry.
This harsh criticism of RLM happens mostly on forums with where people love the movie they love so much that they get even more upset at comedic or light hearted and humorous criticism of their favorite movies.
What many don't understand is that RLM don't care what people think of them. They don't care that they get all sorts of nasty labels attached to them (they made a self-aware "We are alt-right?!?" joke recently). They don't care how many times they are called fat, balding middle aged men in Wisconsin. They aren't gonna start going soft just because of accusations that they hate on everything.
They don't pretend to be professional film critics, but get accused of that as well. It's like talking to a wall when trying to explain to someone online that scrutinizing them with such seriousness misses the point of their entire channel.
I mean really - some manage to take exception to the Nerd Crew Series which is comedic parody. Their light hearted mocking of Disney worship and access media (which is actually very prevalent online if you step out of sherdog forums) gets people so angry.
Thanks to RLM, I watched The Boys after seeing Rich Evans and Jay recommend it. If the cynical Rich Evans really likes a show - I'm checking it out. Also I find Jay pretty reliable. If he likes something, there's a good chance I'll like it as well.
on every website i go on, everyone with a RLM avatar or posting images of RLM are the absolute worst posters who are simultaneously condescending and wrong about everything. so i avoid clicking their videos when they come up in the recommendeds
Oof, what a nut punchBut yet you didn't avoid this thread
Thanks coming here to be condescending to us all
ROARBest of the Worst is the channel of theirs I watch most. Funniest episode to me was the one reviewing that bizarre movie with Tippy Headron that has wild animals. Her husband stocked their property with dangerous beasts and they shot a movie that includes real maulings. Their daughter Melanie Griffith is in it.
ROAR
All caps
I personally winced a lot, I love horror but for some reason animal horror makes me uncomfortable.Oh yeah, thanks.
Watch the Plinkitt Star Wars reviews ppl
The promos suck
They show the most silly aspects of the show to appeal to the dumb masses
People won't want to get into it cause they think it's a dumb show but you find out there's more depth than expected and an actual interesting story arc
Trailer did not do show justice at all

Told you I've bookmarked the thread and I'll get to it in due time RLM is my favorite youtube channel.
Yep everyone needs to see them... I had a blast with them. (tho that last one was the weakest by far)
PS: I also get why people don't like them, their style and flavor is not for everyone and they do come off as condescending.
What are you talking about ? they did a great job at marketing the show, they went with weird, fun, crazy, new not like any other show type of approach in the marketing and it was great they did it perfectly. You need to appeals to the masses and get as many demographics as you can in there.
The show is a massive success it's not even 2 months old and they have the best numbers from the few metrics we can judge them on.. it might be their most watched series already. This might be Amazon's top priority as we speak that second season. (The Expanse has a solid built in fan base for many years, that comedy show Mrs. Maisel is their awards sweetheart and some real life action so to say with Bosch and Jack Ryan and solid but never becoming mainstream Man In the High Castle)
Everything is going great.. don't worry this is a way way bigger deal then Tick you won't get a surprise cancellation or anything like that they beat those two Tick season numbers in like a month since release with this show.

@Eusung was up man you been to Disney heavy areas on Reddit and got a dose of the RLM effect but in reverse : ) .. I say it's space enough for both sides you think it's all rainbows and sunshine with RLM ? and that other 'side' is all crazy and consumer zombified or that maybe the truth is more in the middle.
RLM was built on the back of Star Wars more exactly on bashing it (yes that was the exact moment when they got real traction and a lot of views from the Plinkett Star Wars reviews *yes not Star Trek nope but Star Wars, the Phantom Menace review was screened in a bunch of places where they were invited festivals, gatherings, conventions), on being funny, smart, charismatic, on the cynical and dark humor approach. Most of their channel is them just ripping apart movies, with their own unique style that you either love or hate doesn't leave much room for anything in between.
Of course they are happytheir channel is getting a lot of views don't be fooled by that stagnant (very slow moving) subs number they have, the fans of the channel are real and very active you can see it with every upload they do they get solid views it's not like those kinda fake million subs channels that kinda get 250k consistent views per video. Then they have a solid Patreon support before they found the option to hide the income they were showing 30k a month now I'm thinking they maybe are close to 40k just from that. On top of it they also have merchandise that gets sold out every 3 months.
This 2 guys are pulling great numbers on all fronts and they only have one active employee (Rich) so it's all gravy.
Oh they care.. if those views drop and those patreons go away they will care be sure of it.. till then upset people on the internet are just good for business, when people stop talking about you and stop carrying then you have a problem.
Would you care if you get called fat and whatnot on the internet ? especially when 2 of them don't even have social media and their company is pulling close to a million annually (maybe even passed it depending on merch) on a flexible self made schedule just shooting the sh*t with your friends watching movies and making videos.. oh and they are from Wisconsin and not exactly high spenders I think someone said they even own the building so not even rent I forgot where I've read it, eh you get the point it's good to be RLM way way better then some of those try-hard movie channels from fancier places.
Light hearted ?if you say so. Yea some people will get defensive when they see RLM coming at their loved movies, franchise, etc.. with such 'passion' but we are sherdogers here aren't we used to this. This place is the ultimate "1 - did not like it" and "10 - loved it this is how you do it" extremes place.
What do you mean by that, like what is a professional film critic someone that gets payed to write / make videos about the movies they have seen ? They don't get published but for the rest don't they kinda fit the bill ? just asking. Also I don't think they wanna go in that category they like their 'outsider' role.
Again with the light hearted damn I wouldn't want to see your dark place ala GSP
Yea it was fun alright and they had many greats points and moments but let me ask you this you think they won't sub for that service, you think you won't see a Mando video that gets them 2 million views easy.
They were making fun for people trying to get them better bulk deals like D23 members to sign up for a three-year Disney Plus subscription for $47 per year ($141 for three years), whats so bad about that.. imagine being one of this goofs getting in on that 40 bucks a year deal and then you see this other goofs calling your sheep and whatnot of course you will fire shots back at them I wouldn't expect nothing different.
Then you do look at videos and see grown ass people with those mouse hats walking around (or those super heavy people on those scooter carts that's only in 'murica) and yea it's like they are asking for it, like fish in a barrel.
Ha, you like Jay's taste and recommendations you are into misery and obscure horror movies then too ?
It's all good, RLM is my damn homepage at youtube.. my favorite entertainment channel by far.. yet I do see both sides of the coin, yes they are funny and so damn likeable but they be spitting that sweet cynical venom don't you get that twisted.. that's what sells more, that's what pays the bills and gets the clicks.

The trailers made no indication that this was anything beyond "bad superheroes being bad"
The parodies are awesome but look very hokey at a first glance with the obvious captin america / wonder woman parodies and there was no clue this would be a well thought in depth story

I'm not really a reddit user - in fact I still don't really know what exactly or how it works. So I a lot of the first part you were referencing about Reddit pretty much went way over my head.
I'm not a twitter user either.
Places I was referencing were SW forums like... TFN (theforce.net) where some members, maybe about 30% or half of them get a bit tense or uptight when RLM talk comes up:
https://boards.theforce.net/
I don't remember the exact thread so that's just the link to the general forum. I registered June 1999 one month after seeing TPM as a kid.
Or blu-ray.com where some members refuse to watch them, or if an RLM video is posted, it ends up with the thread getting derailed or someone taking issue with it, or someone just talking trash and posting eye roll emojis:
here's an example...and this is one of the less harsh replies: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=16417759&postcount=168
Or places where RLM discussion is so contentious that every RLM related thread is locked:
https://www.resetera.com/threads/a-critique-of-red-letter-media’s-bigoted-content-see-staff-post.129228/
https://www.resetera.com/threads/red-letter-media-star-wars-the-last-plinkett-review.64851/
https://www.resetera.com/threads/in...ut-brie-larsons-comments-on-diversity.104953/
That 2nd/middle thread posted in 2018 got me to stop visiting that forum - which is a community I was part of for 20 years...yes 20 years. They started as Neogaf, then 90% of the mods and posters had a falling out with the neogaf owner and created resetera.
Today they are notorious in the gaming community as being mentally ill activists....they are actually far more negative than sherdog's War Room section....but believe it or not they used to be very normal video gaming enthusiasts who were very apolitical and fun in the late 90s and the 2000s.
Neogaf is now sane again so I started posting there again - and the owner and his new staff are super laid back.
About the lighthearted tone: - I mean the content is meant to be funny vs Mauler who designs his videos to fuel and enrage you. And their takes on "controversy" is usually humorous in nature, like with the Captain Marvel controversy Mike was shaking his head while Jay described that some channels were posting excessive Brie Larson hate videos and how he didn't care.
Ok BRB gotta pick up a meal, might follow up later.
BTW - to anyone seeing this post...I'm not promoting the forums I referenced and linked as examples. In fact - I advise, stay away from those awful places (well TFN is ok, but the latter two are like going back to kindergarten).
