I just watched Krampus and enjoyed it so much. Somehow I always forget that great horror movies have to be great movies, period. Horror and dramas are the only genres I can think of that can pull that off. Comedies? Nope. Action? Yeah right. Sci-fi? Nope. I think I always forget because of garbage like Hostel, Saw, Human Centipede and all the shitty horror films that confuse gore with suspense.

The last horror movies I watched were The Ring and The Descent. Can anyone recommend great horror movies that I've missed since then? I've heard people rave about Babadook, It follows and a movie with Elizabeth Olson.

Also, the first thing I loved about Krampus is...

...it's basically the same set-up as National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

The best I've seen are...

The Exorcist
28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later
Nightmare on Elm Street 1
The Lost Boys
Silver Bullet
Shadow of the Vampire
Demons and Demons 2 were okay and kind of funny.
The Devil's Rejects.

The Terminator, Alien and Aliens if those qualify...

I think 28 Weeks Later and Devil's Rejects were the only ones newer than the Descent and the Ring, though...

Are any of these on Netflix or in Redbox?

Red Dragon
Wolf Creek
Evil Dead (2013)
The Conjuring

Oculus and Sinister were ok IMO.

I really enjoyed The Babadook, it was very nicely done.

It Follows was one of the best horror movies I watched last year.

Other good ones were Creep and The Visit.

It depends what you want from a horror movie.

Deliver us from Evil is a good one, a cross between a demonic possession movie and crime thriller.

I liked The Conjuring and Annabelle (the prequel).

I really liked Insidious 1 & 2 but I felt 3 dropped the ball for that franchise.

Sinister is another good one, the sequel is ok but not on a par with the original.

Like stated above, I think The Visit was done well. Devils Rejects was amazing at capturing the feeling of a movie filmed in the 70's. A lot of modern horror is that hand held found footage stuff and it just isn't for me.

Most recent horror film worth seeing is Eli Roths The Green Inferno. Straight up unrelenting gorefest.

id say the conjuring and the insidious series.

The Witch was a good suspenseful movies (wasn't really a horror movie to me)

It Follows was the best horror film of the last decade IMO. Creepy and stylish.
