I'm 32 years old and shopping for my first watch. I've never worn any jewelry, and told myself o wouldn't until I was married. So my new wife mentions it's time to get a watch. My current budget is the $200-300 range. I've looked at a couple Luminox and Seiko models, but that's it. Though I don't know much about timepieces, I'd prefer nothing douchebaggy like Bulova or Movato. Thanks in advance, fellas.

Hamilton makes a great affordable watch, though many of them are north of $300. www.ashford.com has great deals on Hamilton as well as others.

Orient makes a good watch as well, and makes their own movements in-house. You can often find great coupons for their online site at www.orientwatchusa.com

You can also often find great deals on several watch forums in the for sale section. Probably the biggest is www.watchuseek.com

If you're looking at Seiko, they do make a very good dive watch. Very durable, but can get a bit pricey. A lot of the new Citizen Eco-Drives are very cool too. Their Signature line has some good stuff.

lol @ your douche baggy comment. get some style ya cheap ass, your 32 and you have never had a watch and your only gunna spend $300? LOL....

stick with seiko.. it suits you.

Jacques Lemans is your best bet IMO. Swiss made at a lower price. I've owned an leather banded gold Lemans auto watch and can honestly say I've been extremely impressed. Dropped it on concrete a few times and no scratches whatsoever.

Citizen's Ecodrive series is also a good bet for that price range. You can get a nice quartz metal band chronograph for that range; and it's run pretty much by the sun so no need for batteries.

Even Fossil makes some great attractive watches, but the quality won't be as good as these ^^^^^^

But you need to remain open minded and not just classify watches as douchey

You can get some really nice, quality watches for around $300. TS doesn't need to spend an arm and a leg for his first watch.
You can't tell me a Jacques Lemans Nostalgie n series, or a Movado watch is poor quality, especially when its your first.

Edit: Just saw that TS thinks those watches are "douche baggy"

Nothing wrong with buying a nice watch. Doesn't make you a douche persay unless he was trying to be one of those "flash douche bag"

Not sure how Bulovas qualify for douchebag status. They make a very good watch and their Accutron line (particularly the VX-200 series) is top notch. Actually, there are a lot of great looking Accutron models.

That brand has been around a long time and was very popular a few decades ago. They've made a nice comeback IMO. Great bang for the buck.

Give em a shot TS.

I have one of these and love it. Pretty much this same watch, but it has a chrome colored face instead of the blue. I much prefer the simple look over some of the giant watches that are being sported these days. Picked mine up for around $250 i think.

Rotary make some nice ones. The wife has one for me for our anniversary. Was

I got a cool Nixon for christmas, but they don't have *a lot* of styles at the $200-300 range.

Watches are expensive.

Victorianox makes some very nice watches around your price range. They are well made and are respectable time pieces for most occasions.

And a Movado isn't a douchy watch. Its just a watch the douchy people buy to try and make themselves look richer. In reality they are a descent company that a rich person wouldn't even consider wearing.
