Buakaw is the one guy that really stands out thanks to his successes in Japan. Sit down and watch TV in Thailand, and you'll see him regularly in commercials selling everything from concrete to instant noodles. Shit, even the Tourism Authority of Thailand is using him in their ads!

Sudsakorn and the other Thai Fight stalwarts are a far second to him, although they're still more well-known than any of the stadium champs and top contenders.

Consider this: bring up a video of one of the major Thai Fight events and look at the crowd. Compare the demographics to the crowds at Lumpinee and Rajadamnern. That should tell you a lot.

I knew about Buakaw still the famous fighter in thailand, but i dont knew about this lower popularity about top guys on the stadiums, they should be more recognized.

For me,Muay Thai loss a lot popularity to another sports, because the big gamblers and promoters only want to do money, and that

The main problem is that for many years, Muay Thai was seen as a "low class" sport. It's only in recent years with Thai Fight and government efforts that the average Thai is starting to see Muay Thai as an intangible cultural asset as opposed to something brutal and unpleasant. Like many other Asian countries, social classes and social standing are still a big part of everyday Thai life. To be a part of the Muay Thai world (whether as a fighter, trainer, or fan) was to be a part of lower class society, something which many middle and upper class Thais did not want to associate themselves with. Even to this day, I have a number of Thai family friends who come from a long line of merchants and business owners who still look down on Muay Thai and say it's "too violent" and offends their sensibilities, even though the Thai government and some promoters are trying to reaffirm the art's place as a major part of Thai culture and history.

Sad to read that, this sport should be appreciated for all Thai people,It was like in my country(Brazil),the national Sport(Soccer) sometimes was titled Sport for lower classes of people , as many players came from humble origins and black majority ( although Brazil is a great mix mixture of several people, stupid people have enough to think so) .

I do not understand how people can devalue the culture of its people and find superior about it.

Rungravee PKSaenchai just beat Detrit Popteeratham to win a 154 pound Isuzu Cup. A million baht, a new truck and a spot in next years Thai Fight tournament.

Solid fight, but another one of those scores that makes you scratch your head at the end. Detrit picked him apart with clean knees and elbows throughout, and even in the clinch I thought it was about even, if not better for Detrit. No wonder nobody in Thailand gives a fuck about Muay Thai. This shit doesn't make sense.

Yokkao's instagram stated that Pakorn dropped all his coming fights in thailand to defend his title in england, is his fight with Jomthong off?

He has to devote all his time to preparing for Harrison, because it's the most anticipated event in Muay Thai! Way better than originally scheduled rematches with Singdam and Jomthong, right? RIGHT?

Last I saw Saenchai was off his fight with Permorakot on Friday. Hopefully they're not taking away these fights altogether so they can promote "biggest of the year" fights against lesser fighters. Seems like that could be the case, though.
