Really? St-pierre has not finished a guy since 2009?

Did you just start watching MMA?! Horrible thread.

GSP has fought 4 P4P top ten in his title-defense streak at the time of the fight: Fitch, Penn, Alves and Shields. That's more than Silva or any other champ. He won anywhere from 32 - 40 straight rounds in championship bouts - more than Silva and more than anyone in history. He has fought and beaten more top 10 opponents than anyone in history and in his title-defense streak. He has landed more strikes than anyone in history. Highest striking defense %. One of the highest significant strikeslanded/attempt % in history. Highest takedown % in history along with one of the highest takedown defense % in history. Is on 7 title-defense steak. Has a lower height-compared-to-division stat than Silva's higher-height-compared-to-division stat. Oh no, GSP warrants no comparison . . . *sarcasm*

I don't know where you're getting these numbers from because you are incorrect on most of them.

But,but...it's because he's fighting the best guys out there like Hardy,Shields...
He only finished back then when he was fighting 5 ft 2 LW's like Penn,Sherk and Serra.
But...but...if this new breed is so fucking good how come GSP makes them all look like fucking children?

Yes, it's valid. GSP has held up a more challenging title reign than any other fighter in MMA history.

Im not really sure how GSP can be considered one of the p4p greats when he has not finished a fight since 2009. He goes 5 rounds against people that he should be able to finish like Alves and Hardy. when I see Anderson Silva fight I know that somebody is gonna get KTFO. When I see GSP fight I know im going to see a five round boring jab-takedown fest.Dont people hate on Fitch for the same thing? If GSP fights Silva I just dont see GSP being able to do much. IMO it is not even an exciting fight. I would much rather see a superfight between Dos Santos-Jones,Jones-Silva. If I had to choose a superfight for GSP I would like to see GSP vs Bendo. What is your take on this?

Yes think about this who was the last non 155lber moving up that he finished? and when was THAT?

If anything ruined GSP as far as finishes go it would probably be not wanting to stop making 10 million a year in sponsorship Money

but can you ever, "put yourself beyond the possibility of defeat"? especially in an mma fight?

that sounds unreasonable to me. at a certain point, you have to take risks in order to finish. it's a risk, yes...but it's the risk that's needed to finish.

it is no coincidence that gsp stopped finishing fighters the moment he lost to serra and decided that he was never going to lose again. even if it means fighting extremely conservative with no finishes in sight.

Technically he finished 2 opponents since that loss...

And there lies the difference between the 2 parties.

One side thinks that finishing ability is a mandatory criteria when considering PFP/GOAT.

I don't.

Like putting Aldo over GSP. Guy has what...2..3 title defenses against ok guys. The other guy has waaaay more title defenses against the greatest WWs of his generation. Has dominantly reigned for years.

I like Aldo, exciting to watch, but he is not ahead of GSP. No way.

It's all about accomiplishments, length of reign, and competition level.

GSP dominates though pretty much from bell to bell.

There was a couple of seconds of one round during his last fight that he was in trouble but he fought through it and went on to dominate.

Think about that: a few seconds of one round out of how many total minutes/rounds in his career?

There is a reason GSP has been champ for so long.

No, but it's why i'm always more excited when a leben fight is coming up then a gsp fight.

Actually f gsp, i've lost all hope. I'm sick of watching him lay off on people, he has had numerous opponents in trouble on the feet that if he would have kept on with the striking he would have eneded their shit, instead he saves them with a takedown and keeps the fight going.

I think the bastard could ened any ww fight at anytime , but doesn't becasue he wants to keep padding stats for his legacy, ie most rounds won , most shots landed.

Etc, when you finish people before the 25 minutes is up you don't have as much time to keep adding to his stats.

Fing prick, he keeps his opponents conscious on purpose, tired of watching that shit.
My thoughts exactly

Don't act like Silva couldn't have dragged Griffin, Franklin, Leben, Hendo, Bonnar, Okami to a boring buy dominant decision.

I don't think he could have for Hendo or okami.

I think GSP would finish all those guys under other conditions. Like a 10 minute 1st round (Pride style), or if the fight continued until one guy got finished.
GSP has a great strategy for beating guys up and winning 5 minute rounds.
He just insists on being so damn methodical.

He gets the UD win but he mauls the guy he's fighting the whole fight. You can't discount that. He hardly ever even loses a round.

I agree with this argument. I believe he would have finished everyone he's faced had the bouts not had time-limits (or say, we're 12 rounds). He wears and beats down opponents until there's nothing left.

Nope, right on everything except I think Aldo has a higher takedown % - he just doesn't take opponents down often.

I like how the "He's fighting the best fighters" excuse for not finishing is only applied to GSP. Yet you see Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, and JDS finishing their opponents.

Yes, and then his opponents get finished by other fighters lol

Even if he decisions everyone he faces for another 10 years, he'd still be a top p4p fighter.
