Really? St-pierre has not finished a guy since 2009?

It'd be different if GSP was the ONLY guy not finishing guys.

P4P has nothing to do with finishes. This is a competition. When was the last time GSP lost?

P4P is about skill set, and finishing is a part of that. When you finish a fighter, you are showing that you have supremely mastered the technique you are applying.

This is quite telling...

Georges fans now have no higher expectation of Georges finishing a fight than they do your average joe on sherdog doing the same thing.

Apparently, Georges shouldn't be held to a higher standard than that.

lmao

Did you just start watching MMA?! Horrible thread.

GSP has fought 4 P4P top ten in his title-defense streak at the time of the fight: Fitch, Penn, Alves and Shields. That's more than Silva or any other champ. He won anywhere from 32 - 40 straight rounds in championship bouts - more than Silva and more than anyone in history. He has fought and beaten more top 10 opponents than anyone in history and in his title-defense streak. He has landed more strikes than anyone in history. Highest striking defense %. One of the highest significant strikeslanded/attempt % in history. Highest takedown % in history along with one of the highest takedown defense % in history. Is on 7 title-defense steak. Has a lower height-compared-to-division stat than Silva's higher-height-compared-to-division stat. Oh no, GSP warrants no comparison . . . *sarcasm*

This^

TS just exposed the fact that he never watched GSPs fights.

Lets just be straight-forward about this. GSP is calm and a gentleman in all of his interviews. He doesnt publicly bash his opponents WWE style, and he is generally respectful. Top this off with him being a handsome Caucasian Canadian whom ladies find attractive, and who most Caucasian men admire, and there you go. He is a "Great White Hope" per say.

People are going to defend his lack of finishes until the day they die. If it were Silva or Jones, then they would be bashed by the masses. It's simply the way things are.

he's great but anderson is just greater and anybody thinking otherwise is full of shit!

GSP is one of the greats simply because of his accomplishments inside the octagon; you cannot dispute cold facts and achievements made in the best mixed martial arts organization in the world. His top ten wins, dominance, longevity and title reign in general will make sure the history books remember him, well into the future.

However, nothing is more decisive than a finish, literally. You ether physically stop a person from competing by (T)KO or you make said person give up, which is basically pleading. It also removes other people, like the judges, from having an influence on what is going on inside the cage. The fact you have to go back to 2009 for his last finish means, although great, that GSP has been unable to put his opponents away, despite the majority of them receiving a long drawn-out beating as a result. And even if GSP, theoretically, could put them away if he wanted to, which I doubt, it means he can’t free himself enough to put himself into a position he can finish from without being extremely vulnerable himself.

This is also why he will never be considered the consensus #1 p4p fighter-nor be one of my favorite fighters. Not only for his lack of finishes, but the lack of risk taking, too. Even though these risks could elevate him to new heights e.g. accepting the Silva fight.

Funny how people always have to make fake new accounts to say things they are too afraid to say under their real accounts. Why are people so scared to give their real opinions under their real usernames?

He was also out for 18 months between now and 2009... Just saying.

Interesting view of the world. lol

GSP gets his fair share of hate, don't you worry.

Apples and oranges, TS.

If you're watching a GSP fight, you can't expect an Anderson Silva performance and vice versa.

I agree with the other posters urging you to rewatch some of GSP's fights and understand exactly where he is going with his strengths, technique and gameplanning. GSP may not be a flashy fighter per se, but the man is one of the most impressive in terms of dominance.

P4P is some subjective rankings bullshit, which is ... bullshit

Has nothing to do with whatever the hell you're talking about

Well, he gets the job done. The decisions aren't really controversial, but it'd be nice to see him finish a guy again.

You should watch old Kimbo slice vids. there's always a finish

Is that guy on the right smoking a cig? I never thought it's allowed in the arena

Im not really sure how GSP can be considered one of the p4p greats when he has not finished a fight since 2009. He goes 5 rounds against people that he should be able to finish like Alves and Hardy. when I see Anderson Silva fight I know that somebody is gonna get KTFO. When I see GSP fight I know im going to see a five round boring jab-takedown fest.Dont people hate on Fitch for the same thing? If GSP fights Silva I just dont see GSP being able to do much. IMO it is not even an exciting fight. I would much rather see a superfight between Dos Santos-Jones,Jones-Silva. If I had to choose a superfight for GSP I would like to see GSP vs Bendo. What is your take on this?

p4p means pound for pound not punch for punch
