DC had a set gameplan for Stipe because it's easy to pick the spots where he's dangerous. Stipe's got good wrestling and does his major damage from boxing range - and that's it. It's a pretty basic opponent when all is said and done.
Jon Jones on the other hand - Dangerous from range with his abnormally long legs with his kicking game, utterly lethal in the clinch (he has possibly the best clinch game in MMA), exceptional offensive wrestling and ground and pound. His boxing is pretty bad, but he honestly doesn't even need it, he's so dangerous from everywhere else. And this is all on top of having insane conditioning, iron chin, and legendary TDD.
DC got broken in the 1st fight in the 4th round but was keeping up with him great, and was arguably winning in the 2nd fight before the KO.
