And Nate Diaz had a much better first round then people are giving him credit for. It really did look worse than it was for him. The first time I was watching too, I was like yeah Nate's getting smashed. But I think when we think a certain fighter is going to win, we start only focusing on what he is landing and get biased.
But after rewatching Nate landed some very good shots of his own. They were more subtle, jabs to the body and head. Yes Nate was more bloodied up so it looked like he took alot of damage. But he was never rocked or wobbled. Where as in the second round Nate clearly hurt and rocked Conor.
Fight metric says in the first round they both landed 37% of their strikes. Conor 28/74 And Diaz landed 23/62. So not a huge disparity. Conor was landing those oblique kicks. But boxing/punching wise they landed very similar in the first round.
And obviously it got even better for Nate in the second round as he landed more significant strikes.
The reason I post this is because. I like many others thought Nate was getting smashed in the first. And hearing the post fight press conference Nate said he was outboxing Conor the whole fight. And I was like "no your not" But rewatch and you will see. Most of Conor's punches were blocked by Nate. He kept his hands up for most of the power shots. He was cut up more so it looked worse than it actually was.
The point I'm just trying to make. Nate's boxing looked better than I previously thought. If you watch it again, I think some of you would change your opinions too. 10/9 round for Conor. But Nate held is own very well. And we all saw what happened in the second. He only submitted him after hurting him on the feet first. With boxing. Nate is a good boxer! Not the best, but looked quite decent against the "supposed best striker in mma" as many were proclaiming. Everyone can learn from fighters who don't get hit often like Mighty Mouse and Cruz. Conor on the other hand has been tagged in a lot of his fights, relying a bit too much on his chin. It cost him here.
p.s
I always find it funny when people say, I rewatched the fight with the sound off, to not hear Joe Rogan's influence. Do you watch the fight with your ears and not your eyes? It shouldn't influence your opinion so much.
