Raul Rosas Jr fires back after comments of "Dana White privilege"

Ooooof. The absolute certainty of youth, or perhaps the nerve of it anyway. He’s going to earn some hellacious beatings down the line from fighters who have scrimped and sacrificed and still have little to show for it. The kid already looks like a Picasso painting, can’t imagine 5 years from now.

On Saturday’s UFC 287, the young bantamweight Raul Rosas Jr is back for his second outing in the promotion, and this time in the first fight of the main card, as he takes on Christian Rodriguez.

The decision to place Rosas and Rodriguez on the main card, ahead of veterans like Chris Curtis, Michael Chiesa and Kelvin Gastelum or a younger Bahamondes with a good start in the promotion,
has been met with objections from many UFC fighters and fans.

However, Rosas couldn’t care less about all this talk:

“They should take some notes if they want to be on the pay-per-view card. They should take some notes and learn some stuff from me! I already got in the UFC and I’m already on the pay-per-view,
so not like those other regular fighters that are prelim fighters. I don’t want to say names, but yeah...” Rosas replied on Wednesday’s media day.

Rosas admits that becoming a PPV fighter in his second fight in the promotion was quicker than expected, however, he still feels it's because he proved that he deserves the spot:

“Let me tell you, this spot on the PPV wasn’t given, it was earned! I earned it with all my hard work and just everything I do,” Raul Rosas Jr said. “I just think I’m a PPV fighter, and I’m the perfect fighter
to open up this PPV card because not only am I a fighter, but I’m also like a showman, a performer. So I’m gonna go out and put on a show and get the people turned up for the rest of the card.”

Its more due to the fact that he has that mex demo than anything he has accomplished so he is feeling mighty entitled right about now
 
I deserved a huge wiener, yet here we are. He should be happy he created his luck. Ah, to be young.
 
Best thing to do is not respond. You’re just feeding the trolls and looking defensive.
 
Putting a young prospect in an early PPV slot isn’t anything new. The prelims receive their own main event which is often times better then the first few main card fights.

As for Rosas himself, he’s an interesting fighter and I think he’ll go far. I understand the comparison to Sage but don’t agree with it. Rosas is a fighter through and through. Sage was physically gifted in ways Rosas isn’t but never had the grit and toughness that many fighters, Rosas included, have. Sage also relied more so on strength while Rosas actually looks to be a technically good fighter.
 
This man is trying to become the Franck Ribery of MMA, give him respect.
 
I get it, this is a sport with a lot of pride and no fighter wants to believe they’re getting what they’re getting for any other reason than their own merit. But from the outside looking in, we can see the amount of attention he’s getting and it’s not the same any other fighter would get with the same resume. It’s not like he’s a master promoter either, he’s just very young and happens to be from a country the UFC is expanding into.

UFC: "Hey, here's a kid that is 7-0 as a pro, 1-0 in the UFC, finishes 85% of his fights, and 71% within the first round. Oh, and did we mention that he's done this all and he's only 18?"
Sherdog: "No, not like that."

They are trying to build name value. Assuming he keeps winning, his name (and easily recognizable look) will sell more tickets and PPVs than the generic bearded and tattooed create-a-fighter that fills spots 11-30 in the rankings. If he loses? Well, someone was going to lose anyway, and assuming it's to another prospect or an established draw, it only adds to the other person's mystique. At least they aren't doing Rojas the way that Bellator did Pico and putting him in with fighters who had faced a much higher level of competition.
 
So the new shining promise should not be shown to the masses and instead buried behind old names that will not achieve anything great anymore?

That makes sense.

He's the dude with the odd face and Pallister W syndrome (reportedly). Why do you think the UFC likes him? is it similar to Matt Hamill, who was deaf?

Hes super young so brings a lot of eyes due to that, plus he brings the whe hispanic heritage crowd too.

Matt Hamil, wasn't that the dude who got majorly screwed by the judges in his fight vs Bisping?

How does that fit with your speculative narrative?

I admit I was grasping at straws. Just couldn't recall another example of a fighter who had a distinctive medical condition.
 
Sounds like a kid with complete lack of context due to lack of experience and wisdom from just having basically still spent no time as an actual adult. Reality will find him at some point

My boy Tra Telligman fought at HW without a pectoral muscle. It was like the weak spot on Contra boss. This adds nothing to your conversation, but a freakin concave chest……gnarly.
 
I'm all for new fighters grabbing their opportuinities and all that and if something is handed to you, yeah max it out. But he is sounding a bit entitled and i doin't thgink he has earned it in the respect that he has done anything that a whole load of other UFC fighters haven't already done. One UFC win in UFC doth not a summer make.

But... to take just ONE other fighter....Joe Pyfer is also fighting on this card and of his last EIGHT wins they are ALL by stoppage. KO's or subs.

Both Pyfer and Rosas have ONE proper UFC fight, both came off Contender Series.
Pyfer won his Contender series fight by stoppage (KO) and Rosas won by decision (which is unusual as vast majority of fighters who get the UFC deal via Contender win by sub or KO.).

So... why isn't Pyfer on the main card?

It's obvious that Dana is pushing Rosas for the Latino-background that he has, and that he is very young so they can mold him into what they want and promote him endlessly. Remember UFC are about to build Performance Institute in Mexico and they want fighters like Rosas (to take just one, Yair Rodriguezx and Grasso and Moreno are the others obvious ones) to promote and build their Mexican presence and all that.

Rosas has USA citizenship but it's obvious he was put on PPV after just one fight for business reasons and especially his Latino background.
I'd have preferred to see Pyfer on the Main card but......whatever.....they're both very good up-and-coming UFC fighters.
