I've seen a whole lot of knockouts, but I'm going out on a limb and saying that the knockout of Chuck Liddell from Rashad Evans might just be top 3-5 of all-time.
Doubters, hear me out...
When you think of what goes into knocking someone out, I think of 3 things:
a) Power
b) Placement
c) Timing
You don't always need all 3, but you need at least one of these to be near to perfect to put someone out.
All the time you see well placed shots knock people out, but many of them are not full power or not totally on the button. Great examples of this are head-kicks that catch the temple e.g. JDS over Hunt or Wonderboy over Ellenberger. You even get the same with punches, like McGregor over Poirier or Lesnar over Couture.
The list goes on... but honestly, this KO was the greatest example of all the facets that go into knocking someone out, coming together.
a) Evans hit him full power, literally could not have thrown a hard punch if he tried.
b) The placement of the shot was SQUARE on the chin, not slightly off, not a grazing shot, not a temple shot, just directly on the chin.
c) He timed it absolutely perfectly. Chuck's hand was almost at Rashad's chin when it landed. So precise.
What do you guys think? Man, that was a nasty knockout.
