I remember being very excited for this fight before Rashad got injured and Jones replaced him. The stylistic match up was interesting to me.

At the time the fight was to take place, I was picking Rashad to win as I thought he matched up well with Shogun given their respective strengths and weaknesses. Rashad's wrestling and Shogun's horrible (Carlos Condit level) take down defense made it a likely assumption Shogun was going to get taken down considering Shogun has been taken down by pretty much everyone who wanted to do so. I was interested to see how the fight was play out once it hit the ground.

However since Rashad is a shell of his former self I would pick Shogun if the fight was to happen right now. And I still would like to see it although it was a more intriguing match up when both guys were at the top.

Discuss fellow sherdogers......

Shogun would have beaten him back in the day but it would have been more competitive. In 2018 Shogun beats Rashad horribly on the feet then takes him down and submits him I think.

Would have been a great fight against that time, although in that moment I still think that the smart money would be on Rashad... Shogun just didn't look right that night, and Rashad hadn't really declined so much.

I think this fight now makes a world of sense.

They both absolutely can't hang anymore.

No disrespect to either. They were both great in there time.

So essentially they are on par with one another at this point of there careers. Good fight to make now.

I do think shogun would have ko'd shad back in the day though.

Interesting match-up for sure. Rashad takes it 5-6 years ago. Shogun knocks him out now.

Shogun has always had good offensive takedown ability but not defensive ability. Considering Rashad is still hard to takedown I'm not sure if Shogun would be able to do so.

Would have been a hell of a fight had it happened. More intrigued about how it would have played out on the floor, as I believe that would have been Rashad's strategy. Unless, you know, he wanted to get KO'd.

Never really cared for that matchup.

Yeah, I was picking Rashad over Shogun via wrestling and a lot of clinching. Honestly I was expecting it to be a relatively boring fight.

However, now, Rashad seems to have lost a lot of his athleticism. I mean losing to Dan Kelly and Sam Alvey is just bad for the former LHW champ. If they fought now, I would expect Shogun to get the KO win as he still at least seems to have some pep left.

Maybes, I think in the end in doesn't matter since Shogun would light him up on the feet and possibly finish there.

They should def book this fight next. Makes sense.

Holy shit I just looked at Rashad's record. I didn't even know he fought this past August. Even more surprising is it's been nearly 10 years since he KO'ed Liddell.

Rashad could have beat the Shogun that showed up vs Coleman but other than that Shogun always

The Shogun that fought Machida would win. If you replace Jones with healthy Rashad at UFC 128 Rashad probably would have won.

Shogun's lovable as hell but he's only ever really been a 50:50 fighter ever since he came into the UFC.

Even when he fought Jones as champion he was only 3-2, and one of those wins was over a 174yo mostly-retired Coleman he struggled to put away. Speaks to how shallow 205 has been for a long, long time that someone that inconsistent was champion.

The 3-win streak he's on now is the first time he ever managed that in the UFC, and one of those (Corey) was kind of dodgy anyway.

I would have liked to watch this fight.

Shogun via KO back in 2011. Shogun via KO in the present.

Woulda def been cool to see back then. Now I don't wanna see Rashad fight at all and only kinda wanna see Shogun.
