1) Both Rampage and Ortiz was their 'final' fight in the UFC (of course Ortiz returned, but at the time he was done with the UFC)

2) Machida and Glover are Brazilian fighters where both guys are looking for that win over a legend to put them on the map for the title hunt

3) Both Rampage and Ortiz split with the UFC has been a bitter process

4) Ortiz was sliding and progressively becoming more whiney (complaining about their adversaries' fighting styles), same with Rampage right now

5) Both Ortiz and Rampage have contractual issues

6) The UFC are rooting for Glover as they did with Machida

I always felt they gave Machida to Ortiz as a "Fuck you Tito. Now fight this frustrating mutherfucker on your way out." kind of thing.

Dead on with all points made. Dana wants Rampage to lose probably because he is past his prime and more trouble than he is worth at this point... Rampage biggest problem is he can't take any criticism or perceived slight from the UFC without having a fit. So the UFC is ready to say "Have a nice life"...

LOL that is exactly what it was. Especially because this was when nobody knew how to fight Machida yet. Give Tito a guy almost impossible to hit and take down on the way out.. Have fun Tito..

Definitely TS, good point. He's pretty much tailor made to beat Rampage at this point. And all Quinton has to say is "this guy is too scared to stand with me, he's just going to take me down".

TS......brilliant - You nailed it....that is exactly the case....good job!

Agreed. All the more reason though that I'd like to see Rampage beat Tex.

Very similar situation. But lets wait and see how rampage performs in his fight.

Glover is going to hammer Rampage -no doubt in my mind at all...

And to be honest I will be glad to see the back of Rampage! He used to be really cool, but then turned into a f@#king sook... Winge, winge, winge (He became Tito with a tan)

Tito with a tan, fucking love it.

I think we might have just witnessed the birth of a Sherdog meme.

You make some great points; I would say they are different in ability - I think Rampage has a better chance of winning this fight than Tito did going into the Machida one.

Difference is that Rampage chances is a lot better.

Rampage could always land one on Glover's chin.

Tito was a lot like Bonnar when he fought Silva. A lamb being led to the slaughter.

Tbh this guy is not tailor made to beat rampage wrestlers are tailor made to beat rampage but TS does have a lot of good points

I felt they did the same thing to Huerta feeding him to Maynard for Huertas last fight. They usually send em off with a loss to devalue them.

The difference between the two fights is that Machida actually has the striking advantage. Glover is kinda Wanderlei-ish...

Granted, it was a long time ago... But I seem to remember the feeling among most people at the time being that Tito at least had a chance.

Just checked the odds and Machida was -220 going into the fight, Teixeira is sitting at -275.

So Glover is a slightly bigger favorite coming in. I don't doubt that Rampage could or ever should win this fight. I just really don't think he will. He's made it very clear that he doesn't care about the sport anymore, and his recent performances have shown it.

I was talking about how the two situations seem to be very similar, not their fighting skills nor who's going to win or not.
