Ralph Fiennes getting jacked at 62 to play Odysseus in his latest movie, The Return

This film was released last year and it failed in the box office and the rating is dismal on IMDB. It's called The return.

It's a good movie. it probably got downvoted by the marvel crowd.
fiennes is a true actor, and did a great job.
matt damon in the same role is just hilarious to me.

it's like taking clint eastwood's role in The Good the bad and the ugly and putting in Chris pratt instead.

6.2 isn't exactly dismal, although for a drama with serious intentions, it's perhaps more disappointing than usual, at least compared to genres like comedy or horror.

It was exquisitely well-acted and well-photographed, and Damon would have been a terrible choice over someone like Fiennes, even if he weren't inappropriately young for the role, but I didn't really care for some key modern interpretations of character motivations, or emotional responses, they felt silly and out of place.

Like another poster in here, I preferred the final episode of the Assante miniseries from the 90's. It felt like a much more faithful adaptation of what Homer intended.

He's not big nor particularly "jacked." He is however probably on a normal therapeutic dose of trt at a minimum(depending on the dose, he very well may have more testosterone than he did at like 18-20 years old for at least a few days per week...).

You've never read the Odyssey, have you?

No Man and the Cyclops

I read it about 25 years ago, so I've forgotten most of it tbh. Until you quoted me, I didn't even realize that you had capitalized that to make it more obvious.

Hes a great actor but I wouldn't have chosen him for this role.

Should have given it to Russel Crowe if he could lose the weight. Crowe would of been perfect an a built in excuse to start working out again for Crowe he gone full Brando there

Seems too old to play Odysseus. Figured they get a younger dude and age him through his 20 year journey. In great shape regardless.
I think the film just focuses on the tale end of his story not the whole saga.

I think if Russel Crowe can't just turn up on set in the shape he's currently in he's probably not interested.

Oh I agree 100 but if he was willing to do that work an get in decent shape there would be noone better to play that role

That makes sense but not a fan of that idea at all. Kind of defeats the point of the character imo. Gonna miss out on all the crucial elements that makes the character so beloved.

Oh yeah if he was just an older version of his Gladiator shape that would be ideal.
