Rafael Dos Anjos Appreciation thread

My favorite fighter since Gomi. My favorite active MMA fighter. The way he schooled (cause that's the word) Nate and Cerrone made me an instant fan. The way he made those two bullies look like his bitches was epic. After that he has had "bad luck". If there's cancelled fight that i'd love to have watched at the movement was RDA Vs Conor. I'll bet that one would've changed MMA history: Conor would've never been such a great name, and Nate would need to fight twice a year to get a decent income. Then, i think he got caught by Alvarez. That fight was supposed to be a war between two tough giys, but it ended to fast.

About the upcoming fight with Lee, just hope it doesn't goes as the Alvarez fight. RDA has become a hittable guy, and Lee has power. Expecting a long war were best fighter, RDA, in in the last rounds. Hope so.

War RDA!

Credit where it's due I thought Cerrone, Bendo, and Pettis would all beat him. He should get more credit for being the WEC slayer after we learned WEC actually had the best lws not the ufc.

The way all that played out was shocking at the time. I was a big wec fan and used to argue on here that wec lws were on par with the ufc. People called me a newb but look how that turned out

I know that feel.

WEC is what got me into MMA.

Alvarez got lucky vs RDA basically. However Khabib fucking ragdolled RDA

Am i remembering this fight wrong?

I remember thinking khabib surely won but the better shots were landed by rda?

Standup - rda
Ground + a couple of nice td's - khabib

I never felt like rda was in any kind of danger..

Beating the champ from pillar to post for 25 minutes. Please, what is your objective top 5?
Dillashaw vs barao
Garbrandt vs Cruz
Holm vs Rousey
Usman vs Woodley
Cain vs JDS 2

all of these fights made bigger statements than the pettis rda fight. the statement made in this fight is that pettis can be grapple fucked. Something we've known since the guida fight. RDA exploited his weakness. but he didn't expose it.

Garbrandt vs Soulless Dom doesn't count. He sacrificed it to beat TJ. All the psychic energy left his body forever that night to pull out the win. Cain was already champ not really a contender. Early-ish KO's don't really count, and I predicted the Usman 50-45 for over a year, that was obvious it doesn't count either. And Barao right now is BJ Penn Bad. He's only beaten Nover since. lol your whole list sucks compared to what RDA did to Wheaties Box.

Dillashaw vs Barao is definitely up there too although now we know the chances of EPO involvement are sky high
Cruz won 1-2 rounds vs Garbrandt, so not nearly as impressive
Holm vs Rousey is WMMA
Usman vs Woodley? Usman dominated the grappling more but did much less damage overall, so not nearly as impressive
Cain vs JDS 2 was very impressive, but the fact that it was a bit of a gas fest (just with JDS being way more gassed) makes it arguably less impressive

At the time Pettis was thought to be nearly unbeatable. The skills RDA showed in the fight were some of the best ever seen in MMA, and his endurance was superhuman. Broke Pettis' face with one of his very first punches, and it was one of the best displays of pressure fighting in MMA.

I thought he would run through Eddie.

From everything reported he had a really bad cut and passed out for a few minutes:

Everything was on plan. We had 3 pounds to lose the morning of the weigh-in. The night before, we had lost 8 or 9 pounds during training. I jumped in the [Epsom salt] bath for 15 minutes, and when I stood up, I felt dizzy. I sat down again on the edge of the bath and felt OK, started to stand up again, and I just fell backward. My head was two inches from the faucet. I could have died that day.

My coaches took me out of the bath and placed me on the bed. I came back for a couple seconds and passed out again. I came back and passed out a third time. I was almost out for three minutes, they said. At one point, they said, 'Let's call 911 and cancel the fight.' I woke up and asked them what was going on. And after all that, I still didn't know if I had made the weight. So I had to check my weight, but I couldn't stand up. I lied down with a cold towel on my head. It took me about 40 minutes to get up. I checked my weight, and it said 155. If I hadn't been on weight, there's no way I could do any more. I couldn't do it. On the walk to the weigh-ins, I was just feeling miserable.

Then he went and ran his own camp in Big Bear for the Tony fight, had a bad cut, and got out hustled by tony (along with an "accidental" eye poke that tony loves to accidentally throw).

All class.
One of my favorites...

ESPN is really trying to generate interest in upcoming UFC fights for once. All week they've been showing RDA fights, in fact they're showing his fights with Pettis and Nate again tonight. Kind of funny now watching RDA beat those two to pulps now that they're fighting each other in August.

I love Dos Nachos!
