Rafa Mendes finals match 50/50 strategy?

Anyone know why he pulled 50/50 in the finals last night? I thought he looked a little tired all day. Especially in the quarter finals match. I don't think he's initiated a 50/50 pull in quite a few years now. And on his website there has only been 1 50/50 guard video and in it he and Gui said they were pretty adamant about not going there unless it was a last resort. I know they used to pull it a lot in the late 00's but obviously that was a long time ago.

There had a couple of 50/50 video before the site remake.
They have taught the enter 50/50 and stall with an ankle lock strategy to their students.

I didn't see the fight, but I'm guessing like you said, he was probably tired, wanted to stall at the begninning to rest, then turn it on later to take the match. yeah, I was surprised to see that they only had a coupld vids on the 50/50 on the original AoJ site.
