R1 puts to bed the Khabib V Tony question

He's always been overrated. I've been saying it for years as well.

Kevin Lee dominated until he gassed (from a staph infection).

But still love Ferg cause I bet on Olivera and for a decision. Fergs toughness saved me on that last one.

Cha ching!

5 rounds against Tony. You never know what could happen. You can’t break Tony. He’s a very rare fighter in that regard and I’m a fan due to that. No quit in him.

I'd argue that he could revamp his entire approach to the game if he used his batshit insanity to commit to such. he just can't be going headfirst, literally, into these fights anymore. his durability factor took a huge hit. but he can manage it a lot better during his fights, know what I mean?

but you're right in the end. in that interview with Bret Okomoto, I saw shades of BJ come from him, how he doesn't believe in having 'coaches' - similar to the ego BJ once possessed way back when.

I'm sure he could make some adjustments that would moderately improve his game...though he probably won't, as you said. But his elite days are done. Elite strikers, elite grapplers and younger/faster/more durable pressure fighters will beat him at this point. You can't turn back Father Time.

Eh, Kevin Lee might have lost anyway. He has a way of finding a way to lose in fights where he doesn't get a quick finish or isn't completely dominating. He'd probably beat Tony at this point, at least in a 3-rounder, but if Tony were still 28 like Lee is right now I'd pick him Tony to win. The Iaquinta rematch showed that Lee can't go into deep waters and win...until he proves otherwise.

top game and wrestling, not at all
Bottom game is much better though. And TBH, his top game looked really fucking dangerous, I doubt Beeb would have arm barred Tony in the first.

But yeah, Beebs wrestling is on another planet, and his top game has better ground n pound.

I don’t think anyone underrates his ground game. I just think that Khabib is a lot more versatile on the ground than Oliveira. It’s a mix of several styles - wrestling, sambo, judo, BJJ. I don’t think anyone can beat Khabib on the ground.
I agree with the versatility point, but I disagree with the - nobody can beat him on the ground - .
It would certainly be an interesting matchup, and bear in mind, with Oliveiras win over Tony, he has beaten someone with a better ground game than anyone Khabib has beaten.

Not saying his ground game is better, because its not, but I wouldn't call it all too far off.

Yes and know, we have rarely seen khabib on the bottom, the only time we saw him on the bottom, he was fucking scary, whereas we saw Olivera dominated from bottom many times...

Well, I agree to some extent because there will always be someone, and Oliveira would make a damn interesting matchup, yes. Khabib is just so extremely well-rounded on the ground so I’d favor him without a doubt. You never know, of course.

Oh, I would definitely favour him as well. As you say, he is extremely versatile, and has a physicality advantage over Oliveira as well.

I am pretty sure he would've been slept then via RNC.

While Oliveira’s grappling is awesome he ain’t close to number 2. Watch what Frankie Edgar did to Oliveira in their fight? A strong wrestler controls and fucks him up. He is crafty but not strong enough for elite grapplers.
Frankie didn’t grapple much, he outboxed him, like he did against pretty much everyone he faced...

Beebs never lost a round Chales has lost fights. Both have evolved but look at who they are fighting. One decisioned a 37 year old past prime fighter and the other finished a 32 year old prime fighter who just mauled the 37 year old and finished him. There are levels to this game and Beebs is on a level nobody has ever seen.

he Kind of lost a fight, not just a round vs tibau...

but, i agree, no one is getting close to best khabib, not Charles not anyone in the lwd

Tony might have caught lighting in the bottle during his Streak not gonna lie, he got mounted by a Steph infected Kevin Lee, and got pieced up by Gaethje, he's a game motherfucker, but it's CLEAR he has styles he STRUGGLES against.

Good power strikers with hands, and grapplers with good top control, Khabib more than likely would have finished him.
Agreed and he matches up good against people who struggles and crumbles under pressure such as Pettis, Barboza those don't do well under pressure and tend to turtle up

Khabib has a very aggressive bottom game, you can watch him attack a lot pre ufc...

He’s the best grappler in the división, only top by maia in the ufc... no one is beating khabib, and if he fights Charles, Charles best chance is to fuck him up standing

Beebs was only 23 when he won every round against 28 year old Tibau. Charles didn’t get theoretically beat , he got actually beat by Felder and tapped to Lamas. Charles is very near his prime at 31, Conor , Beebs, Dustin and Justin are all there at 32 and all faced and beat better competition. Tony at nearly 37 is done and Charles is a top 5 but that’s it. Unless Felder beats him again and then he is 6.

Tibau already beat him

Khabib did not lose the Tibau fight, there are multiple YouTube videos debunking this myth, including one from the Weasel. Either way, officially Khabib won that fight, you can’t base your argument on a completely subjective opinion that he didn’t when he actually did.

i saw that fight multiple times, it was very close and could’ve gone to anyone, but IMO, should’ve gone tibau...
