Let's all bow our heads to death of MMA in Newark.

I've had the pleasure of making the trip to Jersey for 6 shows.

Always had a great time. Great hotel right beside the Prudential Center, Courtyard by Marriott. Nice area too (as long as you don't go one block from the arena lol)

From what I've heard, NJ has the best athletic commission in the business.

R.I.P. Newark. You will be missed.

Anyone have the video of the UFC showing Newark fans during the prelims at one of the events?

Not sure how to explain it. But, if you saw it you'd know what I'm talking about. Awkwardness ensues.

I don't live anywhere near there so pardon the stupid question but how much farther is it to get to New York?

UFC wont go to MSG too often. Its just too expensive there. Maybe for the really expensive shows. The taxes are just too much.

I can see them going to Barclays for the smaller UFN type shows though

Got to see Jones vs Sonnen there. Terrible card, but they held a fan event beforehand and I got pictures with the 'Chide, Pettis, and Mighty Mouse. Would have got Edgar as well but the line was way too long. I also remember Dennis Bermudez and a couple of guys from that TUF season were running around, laughing and having fun like children on a playground. Pretty sure Rousey made an appearance too.

They'll still go back there, don't worry.

It just might not be for awhile, lol.

Disagree.
Cost of doing business is SO high in NYC. They will have to deal with several unions which will rape them.
Accommodating fighters/trainers, doing press, renting MSG, paying union workers, will run them a tidy fortune. They will only do it on special occasions once they make their initial statement.

Funny, I was happy about the news of NY legalizing MMA for this exact reason. Like you said, the area immediately surrounding the arena is nice... and that's about it.

I kind of feel your pain. Living in Raleigh NC, there's no way we're ever getting a UFC event with Charlotte and Fayetteville (for the troops) nearby.

Oh well, better to have loved and lost...

this is like saying the only vegas shows are in mandalay bay. there are always going to be reasons to do shows in lesser venues even if they are in roughly the same area.

I have been to Newark 3 times as well. I would rather drive for 30-40 min to NJ than spend the same time in a crowded subway, then in a busy Times Square.

UFC has already said 4 show in New York State for the first 3 years.

You think they'll also go to Newark?

4 New York State shows in the first 3 years.

When are they going to get the time to go to Newark

They could still have FN's in Prudential. I think events at MSG & The Barclays will be PPV cards

Jersey is a dump. Literally a dump. NY bought a 3 square mile section of Jersey to dump there garbage in. So yea. Its ok if nothing ever happens in jersey again.

theres always time to play one venue off of another and negotiate a lower price. thats part of what people are missing when they say this doesnt affect the sport. it absolutely does, because these overlapping venues now compete for MMA business, whether its UFC or anyone else. that will hopefully translate into lower ticket prices for the fans, higher profits for the MMA org, or both.

Confirmed by UFC.

4 shows per year in New York State

UFC does 33-36 a year nowadays

You really think they will add jersey to the list when 4 shows are happening in NYS?

Not likely
