Just a fun little game since I've always felt the GOAT discussion is too limited.

Résumé GOAT- The person with the best résumé in a weight class
Performance GOAT- The fighter who'd beat all others in the cage in a weight class.

Example: Aldo is the résumé FW GOAT due to his long reign, but I don't think any version of Aldo beats Holloway. Thus, Holloway is the performance GOAT, the best FW fighter ever in terms of who he COULD and WOULD beat.

Using this, who would you say are the résumé and performance GOATS for each weight class? Yeah, this obviously deals with hypotheticals, but let's just try to have fun ;)

FLW
Résumé- Mighty Mouse
Performance- Mighty Mouse

BW
Résumé- Dominick Cruz
Performance- TJ Dillashaw
***Controversial, but he lost a super close decision to Cruz and many believe he'd win the rematch. Also, he brutally ended Barao's reign and KOed the guy who dominated Cruz.

FW
Résumé- Jose Aldo
Performance- Max Holloway
*** Especially if he beats Edgar

LW
Résumé- BJ Penn
Performance- Prime BJ Penn, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Tony Ferguson
***Tie between Khabib/Ferg winner and Penn IMO. Penn beating Prime Hughes is nuts.

WW
Résumé- GSP
Performance- GSP
<{gspressed}>

MW
Résumé- Anderson Silva
Performance- Prime Anderson Silva, Yoel Romero, or Robert Whittaker
***Probably the winner of Whittaker/Romero 2 IMO

LHW
Résumé- Jon Jones
Performance- Jon Jones

HW
Résumé- Fedor Emelianko
Performance- Prime Cain Velasquez, Stipe Miocic, Fedor Emelianko, or Fabricio Werdum
*** Probably Stipe if he beats DC and Cain

Mike Perry vs Mike Perry?

Book it, baldlord.

Resume - Jerry Rice
Performance - Randy Moss

I'm a big Randy Moss fan (he's the 2nd best ever imo), but he started in an era with more passing (the trend has been steady towards more passing over the years) and still never matched Rice's best seasons, except the first year with Brady where he broke the TD record by 1 (a record Rice set in 12 games due to injury). Rice, in a less pass happy league had seasons of 1800+ yards, 200 better than Moss' best. Rice lead the league in TDs more times than Moss and in Yards 6 more times than Moss. And that doesn't take into account that Rice had more than twice as many TDs and yards as Moss in the postseason (where Rice holds almost every important receiving record as well). Rice also had better hands and a way better attitude.

Moss was a specimen, who made some spectacular plays look easy, but people who think Rice wasn't the best ever are just wrong. It's not just longevity. He was hands down the best receiver of his era from the mid-80's to the mid-90's. He just also went on and put up another 6 or 7 seasons of high quality play after that. Somehow that longevity has confused some people into thinking he has a padded resume. He doesn't. Just crazy speed, incredible hands and the best work ethic in the game.

Big Nog has the best resume at HW.

I agree the game had started transitioning to a passer friendly league half way through Moss' career, I do think QB chemistry and the salary cap really plays a factor here though. Those Niner teams were stacked in comparison. It's hard to say which had the stronger impact, but Moss just made things look so easy and changed how the league looked at receivers from there on.

I like the thoughts here. When I say GOAT, resume GOAT is what I mean.

Agree with most of your GOATS
