Social Queen B's Partisan COVID/Vaccine Megathread

New York had a difficult start, during a time when much about the disease was yet to be understood. But the way that New York bounced back is fairly remarkable.

Instead partisan bickering, other states should be using New York as a guide for what not to do, and what to do.

New York let the virus run wild - I’m not necessarily going to blame them because they did hit first and hard before we had much information

BUT they likely have SOME FORM of herd immunity at this point - fauci and some studies estimate it around 25 percent

rand Paul tends to think it’s around 50 percent

Rand Paul claims NY only has a low rate of Covid due to "herd immunity". Fauci defends Cuomo and says Cuomo led to the low rates of Covid due to taking strong precautions.

Rand Paul also thinks Covid rates are low in Asia because Asians get infected by diseases so much

how were the riots last night?

do you understand how antibodies work?

Getting infected and not dying is an organic vaccine

Fauci quoted the CDC, which claims around 22% immunity. To be considered herd immunity, it would need to be 60%. It's not anywhere close, and Rand Paul has had that explained. This is just another politician arguing with a scientist for political reasons, and putting his fingers in his ears.

even with a 22 percent immune population , it would explain why infections are so low because 1/4 can’t be infected or transmit the virus

it’s definitely significant, even If it isn’t actual herd immunity

This reminds me of every meeting where I've ever had to explain basic facts to some jackass who thinks his job title makes him an expert :

I've had to explain to people that paying for overnight delivery doesn't make a state of emergency go away and won't clear the roads of tornado debris only to have them repeat "but we paid for overnight".

I once worked on a software project where is was asked seriously "Can't you just hack it?" with regards to using someone else's database without a license on an ongoing basis as the core of the project. For anyone unfamiliar this is akin to saying can't you break into the bus depot and refuel our trucks there every night (with both the expectation that they'll never notice, and there won't be reprecussions).

If someone just deeply doesn't want to understand something, you can't make them.

people have no comprehension of antibodies and how they work.

and lolz. there were clearly WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more infections in asia than known/reported, which is super beyond freakin' obvious now - after knowing that most covid positives were asymptomatic or mild. ie: the number comparisons aren't that meaningful since the criteria is vastly different.

That is true, and I would rather have the Director of NIAID contextualize that for the American people than a blowhard Senator.

Like the scientists at WHO who covered up for China?

Why would anyone just blindly believe a scientist? It's not like scientists haven't been wrong before or worse, blatantly lied and covered it up.

'Member when the WHO denied they knew about human to human transmission for over a month ?

I 'member.

Fauci continues to come across as trustworthy and honest, Rand Paul continues his slide toward irrelevance.

Every now and then Paul does something truly commendable but then he goes and ruins his reputation with this foolishness.

Paul is a moron. He’s desperately pursuing any glimmer of scientific evidence that supports his political position as if it were gospel while ignoring existing, more robust, understandings.

Rand pretends to be a Libertarian, but we have a 27 trillion dollar deficit. Rand is similar to Donny, in that his legacy is built on all the hard work of his father.

He’s probably the only republican left who’s even pretending to care about the deficit. He was the only guy looking to hold Obama accountable for drone strikes on American citizens, in a case where everybody else was just celebrating another dead bad guy. That took some measure of political courage. The stuff with Fauci makes him look foolish, it’s not grounded in any kind of principled belief, it’s internet gossip level talking points.
