States are the laboratories of Democracy. Don’t like how some other State or Governor does things? Try something different in your State. For instance, in Florida, one way to have fewer positive COVID tests is to discourage testing. When that doesn’t work, simply withhold the tests and let them expire unused.

Gov. Ron DeSantis had his Depart. of Health stockpiled 800,000 to 1,000,000 COVID tests and let them expire UNUSED. That’s one way to keep the numbers in check.

Across the state thousands of sick people (maybe with COVID, maybe not) wait HOURS in line to be tested. Want an appointment? Too bad wait a week or pay $175. Either way hope you feel good enough to stand in line for hours with other sick people.

I sure hope DeSantis gets the Republican nomination in 2024. The people of Florida have had to suffer terribly for his ambitions.

Florida has same death rate (290/100,000) as super lock downed & vaxxed Ma and Mi and Florida has way more old people which means it should have more death. I don't think desantis will be hurting if he's the nominee over covid issues.

People can make their own choices about whether to test or not. There are good reasons for an asymptotic person to get a test, (exposure when you have an immune compromised relative, maybe you want to volunteer at your kid’s school or you want to fly to Canada to meet with a client.)

I’m saying that 1 million wasted COVID tests while sick and asymptotic people suffer in a 5 hour line is on-brand for DeSantis.

This thread ranks pretty high up there as one of the most desperate reaches to find fault with a guy who's completely crushing it as governor. The 7 day average for deaths in FL is less than 20% of NY's 7 day average, so that's clearly because Ron McSatos is hiding all the positive tests.

What the eff does "let them expire" even mean? He doesn't control how long tests are good for, and for the 6 weeks before everybody flocked down to Florida on winter break, 97-98% of the tests were coming back negative, meaning a shitload of people who weren't sick were getting tested for no reason.

The positivity rate in my county is about 1 in 3. Many of the folks waiting for hours are sick. Just because you don’t test positive for COVID doesn’t mean you don’t have flu or something else. Why is it so hard to just admit DeSantis screwed up and move on?

By “allowed them to expire” I mean either he was so incompetent at leading the health dept. that 1 million tests expire under his watch (while sick people wait in line) or he intentionally directed them not to disburse the tests. Which is worse? Oh, and as recently as last week we were treated to him lying about the existence of these expired tests.
