Social Queen B's Partisan COVID/Vaccine Megathread

Anyone else remember that tweet a while back that 200+ senators and congressmen had that same cocktail that Joe Rogan got after he got Covid?...

Not only has none of them died, I don't recall any word of any of them being hospitalized because of COVID.

I guess Trump going to Walter Reed doesn't count?

This thread and the other 1,000 page thread are eating everything. Its so annoying. Just let there be more than one topic if its not that related, most discussions that were ongoing just get murdered here.

It’s funny that vaccine “protest” encompasses any information critical of the vaccines, no matter the quality or validity of said critical information.

New research showing vaccine is not as effective as advertised? To the “vaccine protest” thread!

Research critical of vaccinating children? To the “vaccine protest” thread!

Ad hominem time nice. I am a far leftist even though I dislike woke culture and progressive politics? That's pretty weird but okay. You are the snowflake, terrified of a little needle in the arm. Grow a pair fkin of balls you coward.

I know multiple restaurant owners and they are closing down because half their staff are all sick as hell with covid. So my experience says you are full of shit. Prove me wrong.
Lol my best bud runs a restaurant ( is a franchise of a very big and successful chain) and is getting slammed right now because vaccinated staff can't work because they're sick . There's something ironic and actually funny about him being unvaccinated and having to do that. Not to mention , all the " I just did it to get back to my normal life" people who spent the holidays quarantined at home with Covid. We've gotten to the point where we're asking people to not see and hear what's right in front of them and I'm personally seeing a lot of people draw the line.

Did the Patriot Act cause you to get barred from entering buildings if you didn't have certain paper work?
Imagine it did , then a terrorist used one to commit a terrorist attack and they doubled down on it. Welcome to 2022

I was wondering how are the restaurants in your areas doing with all these vax mandates and vax passports are their businesses doing okish? if we are to believe the numbers in Ontario we are about 90% vaccinated.

Even if we come to a 100% vaccinated i doubt we might. These passports, mandates wont stop the next variants or viruses.

Are they also exempted from the vax?

The industry is dying and it's not because of the virus itself. Lots are still closing due to lack of manpower to be honest. It's very hard to get people to work at this point, and the people they do find are just beyond incompetent. I can only go to a few unvaxxed , my buddy's restaurant obvi and a couple others I can just walk into or go with him. The passports are hilariously silly since the staff don't even need to be vaxxed and the vaxxed are spreading anyways.

South Korea to extend curbs amid Omicron surge, serious COVID-19 cases

Unvaccinated people can only dine out alone, or use takeout or delivery services.

Nearly 91% of South Koreans aged 12 or older are fully vaccinated.

How can a country have a surge in serious cases when only 9% of its population is unvaxxed?

I don't think we are being told the complete truth about these vaccines. I do believe it helps fight serious infections, but I'm starting to doubt it does as well as we are being told.

Your friend is probably like mine, and spends less time going from table to table and in crammed kitchens and dish pits than his staff. Maybe he is a bit older and spends less time partying and shit. It's all about exposure and viral load. He'll get it at some point, and be worse off than if he'd been vaccinated, it's pretty much that simple.

What's really ironic is restauranteurs being so vehemently against any form of restrictions early on, but now they will likely be forced into self induced shut downs for their busy season for X years to come. They will have permanently lost a portion of customers who will never really feel comfortable going, and have adapted their life style already.

I don't think people understand what a seasonal "endemic" virus with crazy r0 and immune waning/evasion will look like (it looks like what we're going through right now). Ironic would be the only thing propelling his biz out of this cycle long term is more advanced vaccine/bio tech. The virus gives zero fucks if people are tired of it and cares nothing for their "lines". It'll just make them sick over and over and over again, probably with very detrimental effects to long term health and economy.

Nah he's a pretty active guy, is able to get into most bars around town too cause he's been in the industry and knows everybody, big party guy. Quite suprised he hasn't got it yet we were laughing about it yesterday. Have you had covid yourself yet ? Just curious.

Nah no china virus for me yet. I've all been lucky but also reasonably cautious wearing proper respirator masks and shit. Also good nutrition, exercise, general heathy work from home lifestyle. I guess I'll just hold out till mucosal vaccines and vaccine for littlest one soon then it'll be time to finally open up more.

How about yourself? Have you managed to stay free of virus? If so has it impacted things like social life and stuff? It has for me. I know lots of people are in different places in life willing to accept more risk and shit. Thinking back to when I worked in bars and restaurants and went to clubs and parties all the time I took waayy crazier risks than a covid illness on like a nightly basis lol... I'm more just concerned for my family's health these days and willing to make sacrifices, just in case.

Yup. February/March of 2021. Didn't have to change much in my life I do commercial HVAC so most days are spent alone but my Wife got it from the drop in homeless centre she works at, guy coughing up a storm , she was wearing a surgical mask and a face shield and still got it. Despite my auto immune it still wasn't bad enough for me to get vaxxed during the first initial rollout . My wife did right away and got sicker then she was from covid. Still unvaxxed at this point though , and as more time passes I'm feeling better and better about my decision. At this point I'm not convinced I'd have a different outcome vax or not. I got mild to modestly sick , lingering effects but all seemed to pass. Not to mention , multiple people I know just recently who got reinfected had much worse symptoms while vaccinated then they did before the vax. I made sure my parents got their boosters and will wait till the dust settles to get mine , unless something better comes out. The social distancing doesn't bug me and the mask things a minor annoyance. To each their own.

The reinfections are what would concern me long term. There is more than annecdotal evidence reinfections can become worse. Maybe not the second or third, maybe it varies depending on the person, but this virus has the characteristics of something that destroys you slowly on many levels and attacks many important tissues in the body. The mildness of the immediate disease is like a Trojan horse, yes it's a respiratory virus but also vascular, autoimmune, neurological, and probably oncogenic. When viruses cause those sorts of diseases it usually doesn't become clear untill later. To me 'dust settled' means having solid answers regarding long covid.

Different strokes for different folks i guess. I'm assuming I'm going to get it again soon , will be interesting to see the difference if any in symptoms I get. Everybody I know who's experienced this recently has been double or triple vaxxed. I'll be the outlier.

The current vaccines don't do shit to prevent infection except for short period right after injection. If they give someone a false sense of security that is almost worse than not being vaccinated at all... Reinfections are playing out like crazy in the unvaccinated right now though if you look at populations as a whole. Infection gives you good immunity at mucosal level, which is critical in preventing infection, but the antibodies eventually disappear. Add to that fact is Omicron evolving in a highly unvaccinated but still largely seropositive region. By design it cuts through natural immunity.
