Q&A on Thailand

no i'm not saying that.
you can call them and they will come and assist.
not much they can do about it,someone whips your ass will not be reason enough to start a nation wide manhunt.
police don't get payed enough to give a shit.
we just deal with our own problems.
you won't have any problems here unless you look for trouble.

I got into trouble once, when some jerk off rear ended me at a toll booth near Rangsit. Just because you don't look for trouble doesn't mean trouble won't find you. Once i was at Swing at 8 AM with my friends and some drunk police guys came in and pulled a gun on us and told us to give them our booth.

Did you give them your booth? :icon_lol:

yes trouble can find you,but if you use common sense you can deal with it.

Since we are now on the 'trouble' topic, If, if there is to be a fight, what is it usually about?

A thai had told me tof 'Staring' incidences, equivalent to the Farang's 'Not looking people right'. However, I have not noted this. Most or Thais, even on the streets ,do not look at me with a glare of aggrresion or challenge.

So if they fight what is it usually about??

don't think about it,very unlikely to fight in thailand if your a non aggressive placid guy without a big mouth.
show respect and use common sense.
thais are the friendliest people you will meet.
like anywhere if a fight is gonna start you will know, most thai will try and smile to cool the situation, most are scared to fight farang because you guys are big and they think you are all crazy, movies make them think that.
should you fight it will most likely be due to an inability to walk away.
should you get into a fight,be prepared as absolutely anything is fair game from a kick in the nuts to a bullet.
they win they win, does not matter how they do it its all fair.
in thailand everything is about winning and losing, marry a thai girl and you learn real fast you never win.
when shes right she's right, when your right in her mind she is still right.

what do they fight about,100 fights will be for 100 different reasons.
most thais cannot fight because of our small size anyway.
but don't expect a fair fight, anything is fair in thailand.
you are less likely to fight in bkk then in most countries so i would not worry.

I don't understand why so many people here expect to get into a street fight in Thailand. But if you have this sort of mindset going in, I guess it's more likely to come true for you.

trouble finds trouble.. thats it.

i dont plan og fighting on the streets and i wont.

I can only see a fight happening if you're a loudmouth asshole.

Or if you get into that situation and just can't find the power to swallow your pride and just walk away.

payak, are there many farang jobs in thailand besides teaching english? i know of people in other countries working part time at a hostel to make ends meet. is there anything else around?

Sorry to take the topic off bar fights, but i've been told on this thread that if I pay over 1000 baht a night for a room I'm getting ripped off. IS that still the case in phucket and in the high season? I can find rooms for about 1200 in the low season but then they go up to nearly 2000 baht a month. Am I looking in the wrong place? I defineitely want to go to phucket, I doubt I'll go to TMT now though.

So which is it, per night or per month? :-)

i don't know much about work in thailand for guys like you who can't speak thai.
i worked in the hollywood nightclub, motown, and 40 bar,and offroad, shit money but the amount of women i picked up made it worthwhile.
if you can't speak the language you don't want to do door work.
backpackers hostels probably have jobs on there walls, handing out flyers and stuff.
other then teaching english or pe teachers theres not a whole lot.
you could sell drugs, many farang do well in thailand.
they will even set you up with free room and board in a nice cell with 70 new friends.

I got eight stitches to my eye brow and temple just for standing there, in a regular disco in Rawai Phuket (nice and quiet place usually). Some drunken bargirl was angry with her customer (he had too many girlfriends apparently!) and decided to throw a bottle of beer (full) in his general direction; she missed...I didn't see what hit me. No one gave a sh*t in the disco, luckily I had some friends around who took me to the ER...
I was told that is was not worth calling the thamrouat (police), and I didn't care since I was leaving on the following day. Luckily my training holiday was not ruined by some drunken slut.
I know it could have happened anywhere in the world, but it's too easy to say
"you won't have any problems here unless you look for trouble"...there is a mixture of alcohol and bargirl "politics" ie extreme jealousy (driven by the desperate need for cash of course) that can cause unexpectedly dangerous situations.

depends also on the type of clubs you go to.
i prefer clubs with no bar girls, and no farang.
