<Lmaoo><Lmaoo><Lmaoo><Lmaoo>

We’ve seen this play out before. The guy with a defined tv persona gets pushed over the internally developed talent once you’ve got eyes on the show for whoever emerges as an actual star. It’s not gonna be Alin or Jungle Boy headlining for 15-25k sellout crowds every week.

Oh have we?
I dont recall AEW doing that one single time but maybe I just got a bad memory

Of course we have, literally every promotion that got ever got a decent national tv deal inevitably brought in retreads from more popular promotions squash undersized home grown taken in an attempt bump ratings. Maybe RoH counts as a counter example, but I don’t think they’re on reliably across the country.

AEW isn’t popular enough yet to have had that happen, so they haven’t fully delivered on this inevitable booking process. The only way they’ll avoid it is by folding without ever becoming very popular. But, that said, have they ever had a singles champion who hadn’t previously held a belt in WWE?

Darby is gonna be a star. They're already building his cross over appeal, they got him cutting promos with Tony Hawk and JPEGMAFIA. Darby has been featured more than probably anyone in the company since Dynamite started, even when he's not there live they almost always have a video package with him and they've already had him in two World title Main Events where he took both Jericho and Moxley to the limit. They ain't doing all that for nothing.

Happy birthday to my dawg...George Kittle!

You corporate wrestling fans and this retread bullshit
You should learn about the territories and how the rasslin business really works

Ugh, I feel like Jim Cornette right now
@Rex Garoppolo you feel like coming over and boning my chick tonight for an anniversary present?

I think if they’re aiming for success at the scale of the territories, they might take a flyer on Alin or Jungle boy as a headliner. If they never do live audience shows again, maybe they give it a shot. I see a promotion that’s aiming higher than that though.

Right now Alin and Orange Cassidy are both essentially promotional mascots, nobody expects them to win main events, and they’re great fits for a niche audience. The company is backed by real money though, and while I don’t expect them to try and sell us Hulk Hogan, I expect they’ll want established names and tv ready performers up and down the card once they find headliners who break through to a broader audience. That’s gonna either leave the mascots behind, or see them transition into secondary roles as glorified managers in stables or as backstage/commentary figures.

What does "break through to a broader audience" even mean? AEW is beating NBA, NHL, and MLB in ratings regularly. There's a reason TNT gave them the big extension for big money.

Have they ever won the night? Wednesday night cable, they get beaten by nba games, get beaten by real housewives. They have guys in Lucha masks in the audience at nba games and nobody knows who they are. There’s a lot of room to grow.

If they toured AEW next summer, post covid, high demand for big events, are they touring NBA/NHL stadiums, or minor league hockey stadiums, small college arenas and larger Music performance venues? It’s no knock, they’re just not as big yet as they’re going to be.

Is Bobby Roode gonna win them the night? <Lmaoo>

Every show on TV has potential to grow, that's why networks take chances on them. But to suggest they will only grow with former WWE guys like Bobby fucking Roobe coming in and beating their home grown talent is hilarious.

Yes they get beaten by NBA games, but they also beat NBA games. They also beat MLB games. They also beat NHL games. Yes they get beaten by Real Housewives, but Real Housewives beats everybody. Losing to one of the biggest shows on TV doesn't mean they haven't "broken through". They've definitely broken through, that's why TNT has gone all in on them. They've also broken through with guys like Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy getting significant TV time, TNT themselves promote the fuck out of those guys also. They're ain't pushing them for no reason just to discard them for someone like Bobby Roode or whatever WWE guy you personally see value in.
